Bishop Gone? [NOPE]

I don't know. I can feel a growing disinterest creeping in these days. I'm not much interested in supporting people who are here today and gone the next. People who aren't part of Tennessee, or want to be a part of Tennessee, but are just there for a cup of coffee. Part of why I don't care at all for pro sports. I know they're just there for the paycheck. Especially the NBA and the NFL. I know at the end of the day, they're all going home rich and satisfied whether or not they win or lose.

I know other people aren't that way. I realize that. I just don't understand it though. When it was cheering on kids who came to Knoxville, who became part of the town, who bled even just a little orange, that's where I've always been. That's what I supported. It's harder to find or feel that anymore.

My close circle of lifelong Tennessee fan friends, all of us in our thirties, forties, and fifties? We all sound about the same when we talk about this. We joke about the "end is coming," but we also know it's not quite a joke. We've made it a point over the last few years to go to away games we wanted to, see stadiums we always wanted to see, because we want to do it now, before things change for good.

And I'm not asking people to act differently, either. I'm not demanding it change, because I know it won't. I just don't think I'm going to invest as heavily once it becomes the mini-pro whatever it's been changing into.
I'm older and I saw this coming when Alston v NCAA was 9-0. I didn't expect it to go so quickly but the lawsuits came fast and furious.

Something to think about is that State of TN joined the lawsuit to create multiple, no penalty transfers and UT went hard with other schools to insure that the NCAA backed completely off regulating NIL in almost every way.

The school isn't with the fans on these things.

A lot has changed but it's not just the players.

When you let courts get in your business?

Everyone is a law-abiding patriot until the law doesn’t suit them…then they want subjective application and get pissed when they don’t get it.

The NCAA let this happen. If they’d taken steps to curb the exploitation, we’re not in court. But they insisted on maintaining the cartel. We ended up with a 9-0 SCOTUS decision…because they were violating the law.

Yeah, damn those lawyers! 😂
That was exactly my point. NCAA Sat on their ass & let the SCOTUS decide everything. Now’s it’s permanently screwed up.

I realize. You mentioned this several times before. It doesn't change how I feel. Doesn't even come into play that Tennessee led that lawsuit. I could probably even come up with some reasons, perhaps some that might be called "rational," about why they did what they did. Still doesn't matter. It's not my job to either justify or challenge it. I have my thoughts on the situation, but again, that doesn't matter. I'm just examining my position, as a fan who has invested time and money and a lot of years into doing what I've done, and thinking about why I've done that, and what I might do in the future.

And that just adds another reason why I say bowls are now irrelevant. You don’t know if a team is even interested, how many players are going to hit the portal, how many are going to opt out and which ones are going to quit at halftime. It’s a joke.
Your right most are a joke but I’m having fun watching BYU kick the chit out of prime times Colorado Buffalos !! Lol

I've come to the point of just enjoying good football. I like appreciating the skills of the players and not just rooting for UT anymore because I'm not sure the focus of football at UT, at least from the admins, is good for the game.

I don't fault the players nor blame them in whatever they feel they have to do to navigate this mess. I'm old, full grown, and have seen a lot of tough decisions and I have a hard time deciding what I feel is right about college football now, so I can't expect these kids to get it right every time either. They get a lot of slack from me these days because nothing makes sense right now.

The admins, notsomuch. Randy Boyd knows pro sports. He also has a lot of sway over our college sports. I'd like to think he'd want to keep them separate as long as he could, but UT doesn't seem to lean in that direction.

As I said, Fall will come and I'll get that feeling that I just want to hit someone.... just one more time.... and I'll watch and live vicariously through the kids.

CFB will need to address this stuff at some point imo. Make em sign contracts like the NFL or something. It’s getting ridiculous. And I’m not totally opposed to the portal because it helped us climb back to relevancy quicker than expected, but eventually they’ll need to clean it up.
CFB can't control NIL, courts have already said so

I’ve decided to not pay any more attention to this portal mess until the week before the season starts. That way I can be reasonably sure of who is suiting up and who isn’t. Right now it’s anybody’s guess. Time to watch a really good basketball team and then a really good baseball team.
Cheer for the helmet and not the name on the jersey.

Go ahead and pay me 9 million a year to deal with this drama. Coach pepperjax reporting for duty!
This.

CFB is changing, and with that change is opportunity. Major programs should (will) have an entire department dedicated to scouting players from other teams and especially lower level programs. There have always been lower level FBS and FCS athletes that make it to the NFL (especially OL). Now teams can scout and go poach these players for 1-2 years before declaring for the NFL. It's essentially the NFL without contracts and salary caps... which is somewhat crazy. It's also why I believe Belichick made the change as he is a GM and a coach - very appealing for those types.
