Bloomberg: Farmers and machinists are not too bright

Oncologists not "fighting cancer" as rigorously with the elderly because of age is not entirely accurate without the context of operations/transplants being too cumbersome/deadly for alot of those patients.

I agree. An elderly patient might not survive surgery or treatment. My mother had dementia and was diagnosed with breast cancer. We elected to do a lumpectomy and daily chemo pills instead of the radical surgery. Mom did fine and the cancer did not return. Honestly, my sister and I believed that slowly dying of dementia-related issues was worse than losing a shorter battle with cancer. I am not sure if there is a right answer in that kind of situation.

It definitely tough but that decision should be by the patient rather than some person at a desk hundreds of miles away. I'm sorry you are seeing someone go through dementia. My wifes grandfather has it and it's really tough day in and day out.

Imagine being all of that but still can't sell your corn and depend on Government bailouts.

Oh they can still sell their corn mick . The facts are that they sell , store , buy their grain and livestock just like anyone on the stock market does . Anytime we came in for lunch the TV was on for one reason , to find out what the prices are , and what the futures are looking like . Don’t get caught up in the media’s spin about poor farmers that have their crops on hand and just can’t find a buyer for them . They play the markets as much as any of us do .

Thank you. My Mom died in 2014. Her cancer issues were in 2011.

I lost my father to Alzheimer's and my mother to... well... pretty much everything else. (ultimately kidney failure, but in her last days I saw every discipline for every major organ) Dad had the much better deal.

No they don't, they either grow corn or they don't. They always hope for a good market.

You don’t have a clue what you are talking about .
Planting season is around the corner, would you be preparing to plant or would you have already determined you were not going to grow this year because the market seems unfavorable? Maybe you have decided to invest into specialty equipment and change crops.

I want some of that bank you are using that’s going to loan you $575k with one tractor to set up a farm . 😂
My dad has one similar to that NE of Knoxville. If he chose to he could probably break even but he's retired and it's more of a hobby. He does have an impressive prepper basement though.

Do you know what storing grain is ? Do you honestly think farmer harvest grain ( soybean , corn , milo ) and take it straight to the co-op to sell ? Maybe small farmers have to do this because they don’t have any choice . Big midwestern farmers don’t operate that way . They harvest , dry and store grain until they are ready to sell it , if they haven’t already sold it under contract at a set price . They are incorporated , and 90 % are diversified with sheep , cattle or hogs to offset grain prices . Like I said they are big market players .

Do you think that's enough to get started or should I ask for more?

You should ask for more since that bank President is probably going to get fired after he gives it to you on those conditions. Get all you can get . If the bank owes you a 1k dollars it’s your problem. If you owe the bank 500k it’s their problem . Lol

My ex father in law ( a Nebraska farmer ) the first time he visited Tennessee made a funny comment that’s always stuck with me . He said it’s funny , down here you guys plant the crops around the trees and at home we plant the trees around the crops . I didn’t really get the full understanding of that until I moved to Nebraska .

Are they growing corn this year or not?

They always will grow corn and soybeans rotated out . The type of grain depends on demand . some straight , some hybrid seed corn for the seed companies and their own restock . Corn goes on the irrigated land , soybeans and milo go on what they call dry land with little to no irrigation . This whole “I’ll teach the room to farm by digging a hole and dropping in a seed “ crap is some pompous blow hard thinking he knows something . I don’t know anything in comparison to the farmers I’ve worked with and for , but I bet I’ve even forgotten more than he knows about farming .
