Boardwalk Empire

Ah. Guess I wasn't paying close enough attention (I think I was texting right then), I'll have to go back and watch it.

Either way, I don't get the feeling at all that there were too many loose ends.

So what do y'all think happened with the Gillian story? She had that surgery in that crazy mental institution, and she was just kind of out of it when Nucky came to see her, similar to the other girls it showed that had the surgery.

What was that surgery? What does it do to people? I'm sure there's a historical connotation to corrupt mental hospitals in the early to mid 1900's, but that part confused me.

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what they're alluding to, but treatment for the mentally ill was like medieval torture back then. I think we treat the mentally ill like 2nd class citizens today, but back then they were treated less than human.

I read some crap about the government funding a project to experimentally give mentally ill patients gonorrhea....just to see what happens.

Just finished watching seasons 4 & 5 for the first time. This might be my favorite show ever. Awesome from beginning to end.

I'd put Thrones, Fargo and BB ahead of Boardwalk - but not much else.

The Pilot to "Vinyl" (basically the same showrunners as B'walk, they cancelled B'walk so they could make Vinyl) aired tonight. Anyone catch it?

Planning to binge watch this series -- is it difficult to follow ? Some of those kills on Youtube are really gruesome

It's an intelligent show that doesn't talk down to the audience but it shouldn't be confusing.

The only parts of it that could confuse me is the use of real life mobsters (Capone Lansky etc) and then the fictional ones made up for the show -- Looking forward to watching it though

One of the best hbo shows their use of real history is a tour de force.

it was a really fun watch. I really wasnt that much of a Steve Buscemi fan until I watched BE. Changed my mind. Truly a shame they didnt continue the series

I think you should. That’s a great show. Like @knox-townVOL said, they really screwed up by cutting it short, Ironically, so one of the best characters on Boardwalk could get his own series. Bobby Cannavale’s character was awesome.

I don't think they really cut BE short, it was a logical ending and it went out still being an excellent show.

As for Vinyl, it was great. HBO was hurting at the time and it was just too expensive.

I just thought that it was abrupt with who and how it ended. It made sense to me, I think people in general are just usually letdown with series finales . It probably would’ve helped if Vinyl had a longer run. I thought it was good too though.

Vinyl wasn’t great. It was good, but not great. Two or three more seasons of Boardwalk would have been much better.

Why would HBO have been hurting? GoT was on top of the world by that point.

Boardwalk was running out of steam and beginning to reach imo. HBO usually errs on the side of going out on top...they don’t have many Dexters on their watch.
