Bob Shoop headed to Miss. St at their DC

He'll probably do great again. Wonder why it was so difficult here.

I think the answer lies in the fact Shoop has been hired for a new job within days, nobody has hired Butch Jones at this point. Who do you think everyone else thinks the problem was?

I REALLY don't think SHOOP was the problem, I mean, you just don't make Vandy and Penn State defenses really good then FORGET how to coach.........I think our woeful offense going 3 and out 5x in a row and a combination of Butch Jones was Shoop's downfall.....

I would say that Stoops downfall is that he was hired in with Butch's staff all around him. When you are hamstrung with the likes of Willie Martinez, you are bound to be in trouble. This year, he was screwed because we were the kings of 3 and outs. that poor defense spent 2/3 of the game on the field.

Yes, this right here.

I am very curious to see how Shoop does. If my instincts about him are true, he will suck at MSU as well. And if so, it will prove that Franklin was the one behind his success.

I never thought D was the problem. Having negative offensive yards till the last drive in the SCar game till the last drive was the problem. If anything the defense kept us in games the offense should've won by 2 touchdowns.

Maybe he can teach his defensive Ends to crash down on outside running play… Simply brilliant

I wonder why MSU doesn't take advantage of that buyout and offer Shoop like 25,000 a year for the remainder of his contract terms with UT? If you are going to pay Shoop a million per year to be your DC at MSU, why not have UT pay the 975,000 of that tab and save some money?

I think the contracts specify an honest effort to mitigate. I suspect that low would not be considered a good enough effort. I assume they have to get in the market value average.

His first year Butch would not allow him to bring any of his assistants. There was a lot of infighting on the staff and they never got on the same page. There were times that the defense showed improvement this year, they were on the field way to long and we didn't have the depth to last.

What were his defensive statistics when Josh Dobbs was running the offense? Just as bad if not worse when we had a good offense. He is terrible and isn’t the first DC to be hired without bringing his staff. I am not sure why so many on here defend him

If you wanna know, where he had to go, he went to Miss (State, that is!) :)

If MSU new coach doesn't try to meddle with his D he will do just fine. Lyle just had little man syndrome and insisted on micromanaging everything. Lyle single handedly was the reason good coaches failed and Top prospects struggled once hey were named starters.

Just go back and watch how any player that played sparingly played great and once they became a regular contributor they suddenly took a step back. Then go listen to the player interviews where they talk about learning "proper technique" or "proper footwork". Lyle wanted the players to play exactly how he imagined they would play and would force them from their natural instincts and skills turning them from 4-5*s to looking like kids that were just learning to play the game for the first time. They looked that way because Lyle essentially told them they play his way or they don't play and thats how we have 4* LBs sitting the bench while Jumper was getting dragged down the field by SEC players until a teammate would finally actually make a tackle.

It will be very telling to see how his defense plays next year at another school without Jones and without Franklin. I do think his defense would’ve at least been much more serviceable with some semblance of an offense, of course we had that at times last year and it stil looked bad, especially at the end of season. I would’ve expected nothing but second and third string players to look much better against KY, Mizzou, and Vandy last year. Either way, we should find out next season.
