I was glad when he finally stopped lying and inflating the home attendence numbers!

you are pathetic.

First of all you need to learn how to spell attendance. what difference does it make what the home attendance is ? you either go or you don't. maybe they can hire you so you can estimate the attendance.

prayers going out to Mr. Denton for his healing.

The classic UT PA line--and yet it makes no sense. Nobody pays more than the concession price, since it is listed. Were people getting ripped off 50 years ago? In any case, best wishes to Mr. Denton and his family--a true Vol.

Yes. They were hoping for people to have exact change and to also not leave extra money for tips...

If something happens to Mr Denton I hope they hire someone to just quote him every pregame. I will do it for free......

He reads off the number of tickets sold from my understanding. He doesn't sit up there and count actual asses in the seats every game....

Speaking of asses, you are one

THE most famous words in Tennessee Football! Thoughts and prayers for Mr. Denton and family.

Someone gets the student section to chant along with him, "Please pay no more". Or do they do that already?

Agreed. His voice is iconic. He has been doing the PA for as long as I can remember, and I am over 50. Getting used to someone else on the mic would be weird.

I thought the legend was that there was a game many years ago where drinks, etc were in demand, maybe because of weather; and the concession guys in the stands were bidding off their supplies. At that point, they made an announcement for people to "pay these prices, and please pay no more". I'm sure someone with some good long term memory can confirm or deny.

This guy was on the PA when I was a twinkle in my daddy's eye. Get well soon Mr. Denton!

Actually, he says what they tell him. And, you are sorta right as far as tickets sold is what he announces. Needs to be said it's not tickets counted on game day rather all tickets including those purchased by ticket outlets prior to season. He stopped announcing fictitious attendance numbers when Adams called it out on a Sunday article.

This time last year, when my brother was diagnosed with cancer, Mr. Denton got Butch Jones to sign a bunch of vol memorabilia, and he personally delivered it to my brother, whom he'd never met by the way, only knew through a mutual friend, and he sat and talked Vol athletics and history with my ailing brother. VFL Many prayers Mr. Denton. You are a true vol classic the likes of which there will never be again!

Oh, and one more thing...DD made Mr. Denton go to the football office and sign out a visitor's pass to watch practice! Talking about asses, DD is one! He should have been fired for that alone!

At the very least, he should be recorded with his signature announcement and played at every game from now on.

I also wish John Ward could be recorded and played at every kickoff, "Its football time in Tennesseeeeeeeeee!"

Ward still attends games I think, just bring him a mic and let him go, imo

I'm pretty sure those announcements are already recorded and played before the game.

Bobby will occasionally (or so) mangle a name and/or a phrase and is rumored to take a drink or 4 during a game which causes his ability to enunciate to lessen as a game goes on. BUT, he is a tradition and he's our tradition and will be missed greatly when he is gone!
