He truly is Neyland Stadium's voice. The day he is no longer serving as P.A. Neyland will not feel like the same place. Hope he has many more years to go as the P.A.

The day John retired will always be remembered as will the last day that Bobby is on the mike. I'm glad I had those olden days. Was in attendance on John's last game but didn't get to hear him call it live. Like everyone else, I thought he'd be there forever.

Bobby will occasionally (or so) mangle a name and/or a phrase and is rumored to take a drink or 4 during a game which causes his ability to enunciate to lessen as a game goes on. BUT, he is a tradition and he's our tradition and will be missed greatly when he is gone!

I agree. I was just saying that many of the pre-game announcements are pre-recorded....and why wouldn't they be if they don't change?

Dang, this sure puts the gloom on a sunny day.

I think, as a tribute, at the USU game, I'm going to give an extra $1 for a coke.

Very sad news. I can hear his distinctive voice in my head... Neyland won't be the same.

But perhaps one of the most memorable Neyland Stadium moments that lives with every avid UT football fan was against South Carolina when Lou Holtz was still coaching the Gamecocks. South Carolina was staring down the field at 4th down and 45 yards to go. In typical Bobby Denton style he called the play with, "It's fourth down andÉ the river!"

"The crowd went wild," Bobby says. "They interviewed Lou Holtz and asked him if he thought I was showdogging to which Lou Holtz responded, 'Hell, I thought it was farther than that.'"

RIP Bobby Denton

The University of Tennessee has been fortunate to have some great voices behind a microphone. Lindsay Nelson, John Ward and Bobby Denton... now there's a trio to be proud of.

Forgive my ignorance. Is this the gentleman that does the play by play on the game highlights that utsports.com always has up after a game?

Bobby Denton's voice is synonymous with some of my favorite childhood memories: fall days in Knoxville with the glowing sun glistening on the most beautiful shade of orange God ever made. Thanks for the memories, Mr. Denton.
