I think BK would come here. If he is in a postion to get out of his contract at TT, and we show interest in him, I think he'll make the move. I never knew TT had BB until he got there. He can make changes quick. He should be able to do the same here. Plus, he will move to a higher profile school and be back on top. Being 65, if he did only stay here 5-7 years then retire, we would have moved our program up the ladder and even though we'd be searching again, it would be different than any of the other searches in previous years. We would be looking to fill a vacancy in a winning program. But, at present, we don't have a lot to offer except good facilities that are going to improve with thec practice facility, and a lot of room for improvement. So, the list should be long and we should get the right coach.

I agree with you GVF. BK doesn't have lots of years of coaching left but he has enough time to turn our program around in time for another high profile coach who would be more willing to take the UT job when the program reaches another level. The question is: Is the UT administration willing to take a bold step like offering a coach like BK an opportunity to coach at UT? BK is a proven winner. It seems like he has turned the corner as far as his on-the-court demeanor. There is no doubt he can make the necessary changes in a struggling basketball program. As VolFreak said, "you either love him or hate him". The thing I like about BK is he stresses TEAM basketball and not individual basketball as others have mentioned earlier in this thread. Another thing he expects or I should say demands is Discipline. "Team basketball" and "discipline" has been lacking in the men's basketball program. You have those two ingredients and you have the makings of a successful program.

Basically, you have 2 BK's to consider. The BK that left Indiana an embattled figure after many years of being the invincible man. Which no doubt had something to do with his demeanor in latter years there.

And, now, because of that potential career ending departure from IU, you have what seems to be a bit more humble, yet still fiery and demanding BK you see courtside with TT. Not unlike the Bobby Knight that built Indiana BB. In the limited viewing time I've had of TT this year, I haven't seen him act in any way that Pat Summit has not acted. Yet with control just as she does.

If it was the BK just getting fired from IU, I'd say no way. With how he has performed personally at TT, I'd say atleast put him in the hat and give it a fair evaluation. I like BK and don't think he'd be a bad choice, but I would not go so far as to say he is our only high profile productive option.

Sources close to the athletic dept (attorneys that put together the financials) have indicated that Knight has already contacted UT about the job and did so on the last go round when Buzz got the job. Indications are that Knight got passed on b/c of the controversy surrounding him at the time. He's had several years to wipe the slate clean now and has turned the TT program around. Bottom line is he's chompin' at the bit for some reason...that's the part of the story that has been left out. You guys know I don't post much, so don't think this is made up. :good:

can u give me a link to the information? [/quote]
sorry...no link. Several have heard this same thing. As a matter of fact it was posted over on sportsparlorsouth.com last night and the guy was torched. Brent Hubbs has shot down this "rumor" publically, but I promise you Brent doesn't know everything and BK has hit the radar. On SportsTalk this afternoon, Jimmy and John admitted that UT had a legitimate shot at BK last go round. If they want ticket sales, BK is the man! If UT wants to simply run up and down the court and shoot like Louisville and Cincy except with crappy ticket sales, then by all means go after a no name...but then in 2 years MH might be looking for a job, himself.

Based on that story, it looks like WVLT will run every piece of info it can find, no matter how small it is. So all we know is that a BK rep has been contacted  ....More on WVLT as the story develops. That story has gotten us talking though. Hiring a coach is so exciting! :D Personally, I'd love to see BK in orange.

If we could get ol BK to come on up to K-town I just get the feeling that it might turn out to be a beautiful thing.

I can just see it now...Tennessee's disciplined Vols sack Kentucky on last second shot as they hold the Wildcats to their lowest point total of the season.

Go Vols!

And, of course, What About Bob??? :D

That last post reminded me of the 47-46 game in 1999. An another topic, I must be very naive, but what are the VolNation dollars for and how are they accumulated?

Mostly the dollars are just for making wagers with other members. They are earning by posting and starting new topics.

Guys don't worry about BK being 65 years old. His son Pat is already thought to be ready to coach a major Divison 1 basketball team. BK could coach 4 or 5 years retire and his duties could then be given to his son Pat. :rocks:

Bobby Knight is 63, not 65. With his coaching, those 2 years could make a big difference.

Knight is using it as leverage and that is all!

Leverage for what? More money? More control and power in the Athletic Department?

Based on the fact that a few years ago Knight GAVE BACK his entire salary (that season's pay) to TT because he felt that he had done a sub-par coaching job and that his team underperformed, I seriously doubt he is doing what Pat Kennedy did years ago when he flirted with UT to get more $$$ out of FSU.

Wow! That is BIG! I am serious! That's what you call integrity! I can't believe the vile condemnation being thrown Bobby's way by the accusers of the brethern. A man repents, and proves it by walking it out and additionally shows more integrity than probably 99.9% of the coaches out there including the posters on on this board, and still they continue to beat him! Bobby might not be a saint, but in a thunderstorm, I would rather stand beside him than any of those who continue to condem him.

Bobby Knight or not, the university needs to hire a coach of his caliber. Hiring Lebo (or the like) would be a lateral move on our part. I don't understand why we would even consider him. A Rick Barnes, BK, etc is all we should consider.

I would also like to say that I have been visiting this site for about a week and find it to be a great resource, and entertaining read and a great way to waste time at work.

Thanks

He could be the pick of the rich and the righteous. The truly righteous would not condem him for his past, if he has repented, which he appears to have done. Need we be reminded that if we do not forgive, we will not be forgiven ourselves. As for the rich, they just say "Go win baby!

I'm not so sure about that. The first time---meaning the first minute of his first game at UT---Knight would be violating one of those Ten Commandments by taking the Lord's 'name in vain' loud and clear.
:censored:

I predict that the righteous won't be so forgiving. Neither will the Buzz supporters who prefer a nice, church-going good ol' boy over Winning basketball games.

BTW, ESPNews is reporting (4:50 PM today that I heard it) that the News-Sentinel is saying that Knight has been contacted about the UT coaching job.
:D
