2. Pretty sure lying to your boss is also a fireable offense.
There are many reasons Arkansas could can him for this. How does that dude go sit in an 18 year olds living room and convince his mom and dad to send their son to Fayetteville?
Of course he can be fired over this. The question is whether he will be. And given what Petrino's done to their program, I don't think there's any way they will unless there's some legal issue that makes them think they have no choice.
You're Arkansas's AD. Are your long-term prospects better if you A) fire Petrino for lying to you, hire somebody else, and drop back to the bottom half of the conference, or B) suck it up, ignore the lie, and keep on going with Petrino?
Everyone saying he won't be able to recruit now is ignoring how recruiting actually plays out in the real world. Everyone already knew Petrino was a snake and an arsehole, and his recruiting to Arkansas has still been great.
