Border Wall Thread (Merged)

So let whoever come here for whatever reason and fingers crossed they give more than they take.

Going well in Europe so far.....

I didn't say that....Build the wall but realize that it's going to cost probably $15+ billion to do so but expect people to still get in the country.

Right now about 40% of all illegals get into this country by air. They come for a visit and never leave. Many come through from Canada, which has very lax immigration policies and is more open to people coming there.

The % of illegals has been decreasing the last 4 years and the number of people coming from places other than Mexico has been increasing. I think the focus needs be placed more on other areas than building a wall. Hire more people for TSA and INS, develop better software to vet people when they come into the country.

From WaPo:

The White House sought Monday to calm a jittery Washington ahead of a showdown with Congress over spending, and President Trump softened his demand that a deal to keep the federal government open include money to begin construction on his long-promised border wall.

Despite one-party control at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue, the brinkmanship that came to define spending battles in the Obama years has tumbled into the Trump era, as have the factional divisions over strategy and priorities that have gripped the GOP for a decade.

But with a Friday deadline looming to pass a new spending bill, the Trump administration projected confidence that a shutdown would be avoided. In the face of fierce Democratic opposition to funding the wall’s construction, White House officials signaled Monday that the president may be open to an agreement that includes money for border security if not specifically for a wall, with an emphasis on technology and border agents rather than a structure.

I wonder... is he actually going to keep ANY of his major campaign promises?

The new POTUS logo design.

New POTUS position statement on wall:

"“My base understands the wall is going to get built, whether I have it funded here or if I get it funded shortly thereafter,” Trump said in a recent interview with the Associated Press. “That wall’s getting built, okay? One hundred percent.”"

Earth to Trump's base: Your President is the master of the yuuuge "future unveiling" that NEVER occurs. This is double-talk for what he really meant:

"I am going to abandon my campaign promises to build the wall. It's never going to happen. Frankly, I could have cared less if it were actually ever built, because I just used this issue (and used you, the sucker voter) during my campaign, because our research teams showed it would get you to vote for me. I beg you to please, please, please still like me, because it's important to my ego. Now buzz off, as I've got a round of golf to play."

Looks like Mexico will be paying for the wall...

http://nypost.com/2017/04/25/ted-cruz-wants-el-chapo-to-pay-for-trumps-border-wall/

The Republican senator from Texas is proposing the US use coc aine-tainted money forfeited by Mexican drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán to pay for President Donald Trump’s proposed wall on the nation’s southern border.

Cruz introduced a bill — called Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order, or ELCHAPO — Tuesday that would repurpose $14 billion in assets the feds plan to squeeze out of Guzman to fund the project, Axios first reported.

“Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way toward building a wall that will keep Americans safe and hinder the illegal flow of drugs, weapons, and individuals across our southern border,” he said.

LOL, seizing the assets of a criminal and calling referring to is as "Mexico paying for the wall" is hysterical. Seeing that El Chapo's net worth was reported to be $1.4 billion, (not $14 billion) I'd say you better start looking between the cushions of the oval office couches for more change.

I read it and understood it - maybe you can point out the big words I'm getting wrong. Nowhere in the article did it mention anyone but El Chapo:

Chapo is just an example. It's to pull all assets seized, from all offenders.

That's Ok though, hope for the wall in one hand and poop in the other - see which one fills up first.

Is illegal immigration down?

I believe so. Maybe the proverbial wall is already built.

Illegal immigration has been going down every year from 2009 to 2015.

If that's the standard, maybe Obama built your proverbial wall.

(CNN) Illegal Southwest border crossings were down 40% last month, according to just released Customs and Border Protection numbers -- a sign that President Donald Trump's hardline rhetoric and policies on immigration may be having a dete

According to CBP data, the 40% drop in illegal Southwest border crossings from January to February is far outside normal seasonal trends. Typically, the January to February change is actually an increase of 10% to 20%.

It is CNN, so...

What's your point? What does that have to do with the statistics I provided?

I like immigrants. I have one who cleans my house twice a month. They aren't taking my jerb.

Under your skin I am.

See that's where you're wrong, you're trying too hard to be noticed. You'd have to do something besides ad hominem to get under my skin - thus far you haven't. Your bait game may be the only thing weaker than your ability to form a compelling argument.

No need to for me to wait, it ain't coming.

Another trump failure. Maybe someday he'll make good on a promise. Today is not that day.

Read up on what the head of the Border Patrol union who met with Trump many times during the campaign says.

http://www.npr.org/2017/01/26/511745401/head-of-border-patrol-union-on-trumps-wall-plans

Trump has always said to the people that matter the wall would be where knowledgeable agencies determined it was needed. He's done a troll job otherwise with his "great, beeyouteeful, wall" comments.

Getting funds to construct an adequate wall where needed and to support the Border Patrol, ICE, and other agencies dealing with the criminal illegal entry into the US and the criminals who hide and hire them is the real goal.

A "Great Wall of America" never was the untimate goal.

Blah blah blah.
Still, from months, years, still under you skin.

You're liberal, you're stupid. Everyone knows this but please, give me more time under your skin. I clearly am.

There are countless videos that are readily available that refute what you're saying. Trumps campaign promise was a "Great, great wall 30-40 ft high and 1,000 miles long" with the balance of the 2,000 mile border being comprised of natural barriers. He minced no words when describing it, he meant what he said and he'd build it as described if he had the chance.

Now the wall is being redefined, walked back and hopefully capitulated towards common sense approaches to immigration reform like disincentivizing them to want to come here in the first place.

Exactly the problem with this country. "You're liberal, you're stupid." Plenty of smart people on both sides of the aisle.
