Bowden out at FSU after this season? (merged)

So, this new proposal will give Jimbo the ultimate authority to make changes within the coaching staff, even if Bowden doesn't retire?

What exactly would Bowden's job be at that point?

He doesn't call plays...he doesn't make decisions. He's just a familiar face standing there on the sideline, occasionally picking his nose. I think that makes him the mascot.

Probably something like JoePa's.

Ive never been a fan of Free Shoes University, but I like hearing Bobby talk, and think he did more for that school than any other coach there. I'll be the first to say, I know very little about their recent record over the past few years, but in the 90's FSU, from what I recall, was a pretty tough football team.

Inshort, Bobby Bowden is Florida State just as much or more than Deion Sanders is.

Bowden built that program up from nothing and what he did with their football team generated enormous amounts of money and success for every facet of that school.

The real problem here is that no one had the cajones 5 years ago to tell him he should go out on top and resign, with some great title and place at the university, with a nice fat check.

Instead, they tried some tepid middle of the road approach of the coach in waiting thing, which has been disastrous because the team is doing poorly and the active coaches are at each other's throats. You've got some people claiming that the current state of affairs is really the fault of Fisher because he in reality runs the team, and some claiming he is getting frsutreated because he doesn't really get to run it due to Bowden's assistant coaches.

The whole thing is a mess. Only solution is for Bowden to go, Fisher to fire all of the assistants who aren't his own, and gear it up from scratch.

After Fulmer was ousted, I knew this day was coming! I also see Jim Tressel out in Ohio State by end of next season. These football programs not only want to win games, but championships! Anything less is not acceptable! Period!

We often talk about coaches leaving a legacy at their programs, and I would not go as far to say that Bowden's will be tarnished to an exceptionally large degree over this, but I completely agree with you Lg. Sometimes, espeacially when you have an obtainable goal in your sights such as Bobby and JoPa have, it's hard for them to recognize their own immortality. I'll submitt that the age of life long coaches in programs has probablly passed us by however, and these remaining few should be remembered for their overall achievments, not just their recent year's short comings.

As my FSU booster friend put it, the real problem is that too many people decided that Bowden's individual glory was worth way more than the long-term success of the program on the whole.

Even if Bobby wasn't battling JoPa for the title of most wins, he still wouldn't want to step down. The guy has an ego as big as the state of TX and thinks the university owes him for his accomplishments. He's done a number of great things for FSU, but unfortunately it will be this season that will remain a big part of his legacy if something doesn't change soon. The only way he walks away from FSU is by escort... which is unfortunate on many levels.

Nope. Not a chance.

Alabama fans are scared that Fisher will lure Kirby Smart to be DC at FSU. They are worried Richt might pick him up at the end of the season if he gets rid of Martinez too. I would rather him go to FSU.

The talk up here in Buckeye land is that Tressel will retire after Pryor's recruiting class is graduated.

That will put him at the school for ten years.

Then Cincy's Kelley or Kelly will take over.

1) Prior to either the USF or BC games, two FSU coaches (I won't say who) actually got into a physical fight in the locker room.
Rick Trickett is almost certainly one of the participants. He got a triple dose of the jackass gene at birth. Lawrence Dawsey and Odell Haggins are good guesses as to the other pugilist.

Higher than that -- coordinator level.

But honestly, if you didn't hear it I am wondering if its true.

seems like they in top 10 in recruiting every year, wonder why they suck.......Bowden, Foulmer, and Paterno need to quit.....be4 they get FIRED!!! :eek:lol:

foolmer does not belong in the same sentence with Bowden and Paterno!

Bowden brought Florida State up from nothing. Paterno made Penn State into a traditional power. foolmer took over a program that was already nationally known and had some success but, nevertheless, found a way to NOT get the most of the talent that he recruited and handed the program over to CLK in worse shape than when he back stabbed Majors to take over the big chair.

Saban runs that defense. Who cares who has the title of DC?...

And if the report I heard is correct .... Just say your assumption wouldn't be.

I'm pretty sure you're referring to Chuck and Jimbo. If so, I've heard the same...though I have no idea how serious the altercation really was.

An update on the latest rumors swirling around the situation at FSU:

First, the fight prior to one of the last two games between coaches did indeed involve two lower level assistant coaches, not coordinators, as I was initially led to believe. It did apparently involve someone losing a couple of teeth.

Second, prior to the USF game, Bowden did not appear in the locker room on time to give a pregame speech to the team as he reportedly forgot what time the game started. When he did not appear, Jimbo tried to give the speech, but was rebuked by staff loyal to Bowden who thought he was overstepping his bounds.

Third, Jimbo reportedly has complete confidence of major boosters and alumni, but loyalties run deep to Bowden and to the assistants he brought in and there is a real power struggle.

Fourth, FSU had three of their top five recruits de-commit last week.

The program is in complete freefall.
