Bowl possibilities (Merged)

I live in St. Petersburg and I have been praying to my Vol Throne that we get the Outback Bowl.
My sister & her family live in Palm Harbor. We've spent the past five Christmas holidays with them, and every year (well it seems like every year, I've had to watch all the other teams parade around town and read about them in the paper, etc. Please, oh, please, Outback Board Grinches, please let it work out for the Vols this year! I know Vol fans would paint that town ORANGE (with no blue!)
:clapping:

Each of the Bowls that have tie ins with the SEC get to pick from the list of bowl eligible teams from the confrence starting with the highest tie in bowl and working their way down. The Cotton is a remote possibility, although I'd say it's very remote. These are the possibilities the way I have it figured:

If the SEC gets two teams in the BCS:
BCS 1: Florida/Arkansas
BCS 2: Florida/Arkansas/LSU
Capital One: Florida/Arkansas/LSU
Cotton: Auburn/Tennessee
Outback: Auburn/Tennessee
Chick Fil A: Georgia
Music City: Kentucky/Alabama
Independence: Kentucky/Alabama
Liberty: South Carolina

If the SEC gets one team in the BCS:
BCS: Florida/Arkansas
Capital One: Florida/Arkansas/LSU
Cotton: LSU/Arkansas/Auburn
Outback: Auburn/LSU
Chick Fil A: Georgia/Tennessee
Music City: Georgia/Tennessee
Independence: Kentucky/Alabama/South Carolina
Liberty: Kentucky/Alabama/South Carolina

Anyway, Music City bowl would not be a bad idea for me, it takes me about 20 minutes drive up there. :)

What bowl might we be going to if we finish 9-3? The outback bowl again.

I just read in the Tennesean, that we have an outside chance to the Capitol One or Outback bowl.

They also said we may play Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl.

I would prefer Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl.. It would be awesome to beat Notre Dame, not to mention I'm only 5 hours from Dallas, so going to that bowl game is a no brainer, plus we smoked A&M the last time we played in Dallas

I don't think it will come into play this season, because even if Notre Dame loses, it will get a BCS Bowl, but I found something interesting about the team we love to hate....

For Non-BCS Bowls Notre Dame is considered a Big East team and is eligible for the Gator, Sun and Houston Bowls, however begining with 2006 those bowls may only have the Irish once in four years. Also, the Cotton Bowl has an option in it's agreement with the SEC that it may replace it's SEC team with Notre Dame once over that same time span.

The Cotton Bowl would LOVE for Texas to lose the Big12 Title game and play Notre Dame, but unfortunatly, I don't see the BCS passing Notre Dame up even if it loses to USC.

Worth talking about though is what happens if the Cotton decides to bump an SEC team in a year like this year when we already have too many SEC teams eligible for Bowls. It could spell disaster for the conference.

The best team Notre Dame has beaten in two years is Michigan, last year. Honestly, if you take away several questionable officiating calls, they lose that game. That's not good.

It's the love affair with them though.

I honestly would rather see two Big East Teams in the BCS than Notre Dame.

I'd LOVE to see Louisville vs. Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl (So I wouldn't have to worry about watching that one.) and West Virginia in the Rose vs. USC. (THAT would be a fun game to watch IMO)

That is really interesting stuff; thanks for sharing it. You're right, that's a potential disaster. Imagine a scenario in which everything else this year is the same, except that ND lost that game to UCLA and was therefore out of the BCS mix, and that the SEC only got one team in the BCS. Here's how it might fall out:

Sugar - FL
Capital One - ARK
Outback - Auburn
Cotton - NOTRE DAME
Chicken - LSU
Music City - TN
Liberty - GA
Independence - KY

S.O.L. - Bama, SC

Ouch. That would be brutal.

no BCS bowl worth it's salt would turn away a an elligible ND team to play as an at large. If they finish in the top 12, and they likely will even with a loss to USC, they'll be an at large BCS team.

and should that happen, you can erase two SEC teams getting in to the BCS.

holding out for the outback....likely headed to ATL or NSH. I don't htink we have a shot at the Capital One bowl.

Regardless what Notre Dame does, I think the SEC gets two in the BCS unless Florida loses to Florida St, and Arkansas wins out. Auburn only has two losses but is too far down. However, if LSU beats Arkansas and ends up 10-2, I think they might go and then you would havea two loss team coming out of the Championship Game if Arky beats LSU and Florida wins this weekend, so I think that in that case both SEC CG teams make it into the BCS.

There are just too many three-loss teams. The only other teams that would go in ahead of a second SEC team, is a second Big East team, and with the three from the SEC ranked so high, surely they wont pass on them for the Big East.

I think we will end up playing VaTech. It will be the same as a NC game here on the TN/VA line. I pray we run up 70+ points on them and stop them below 100 yards total o

Their defense is good, we won't hit 70+ or even 40+...their offense won't win them the game though, it'd be their defense

The best chance for a second SEC team in the BCS is LSU, so I hope they beat Arky on Friday. If Arky wins and then loses to UF, I don't think the SEC gets but one team in, and that hurts the Vols. We know for sure that Michigan is in, and Notre Dame is pretty much a lock. Boise St is guaranteed a spot if they bean Nevada-Reno, so that leaves just one spot.

We also need to pull for Ga Tech over UGA. If UGA wins that game we are likely in the Music City Bowl.

for 2 SEC teams to get in, you need one of them likely going to the BCS title game. short of that, i don't see two getting in.

So, if you want two in, you need to root for LSU to beat ARK and UF to throttle ARK in the SEC CG. then you need USC to lose to ND or UCLA to knock them out of the NT hunt.

then you could see UF/OSU for the NT and LSU going to the Sugar.

o/t that...likely only one SEC team gets in.

With LSU beating Arkansas today, that really helps us because LSU may have a high enough ranking to get an at large bid, and then the winner of the SECCG will get an automatic bid. Thus possibly placing us in the Outback or Cotton Bowl. Either one I am fine with since its not the Peach or Music City Bowl. I really hope Arkansas loses the game to UF simply because that would put another 3 loss team in the bowl picture. Thus possibly pushing Auburn ahead to the Captial One Bowl, the Cotton drooling over Arkansas, the Peach taking UGA, and us ending up in Tampa playing Penn State. I personally would love that match up so we could get some sort of revenge on them for the past 2 ass whippings they have hande us. Get ready for Tampa boys. Here comes Tennessee!!

I hope so. I have two club level tickets if anyone needs them. (to Outback)

I hope we don't have to play Penn St. in the outback bowl....I think we can beat them but they have to know we can't defend the option and Joe Pa likes to run that.....If we couldnt' stop Air Force, I dunno if we could stop Penn St. because we all know they have better talen than Air Force

If USC beats ND their going to the Championship game.

The computer polls think the Pac10 is the second comming so just imagine what a win over a team like Notre Dame is going to do for their computer ranking.

USC has to gain .0076 points to jump Michigan. If they stomp ND I think it can be done.

Personally I don't want to watch a rematch. I hate both Michigan and USC but I'd much rather USC get the chance because the media on that "Rematch" if it were to happen will make me want to jump off a tall building.

Talk about hype. Every day, Michigan Ohio State, Everyday on ESPN Troy Smith, Mike Hart, Llyod Carr, Everyday a story from a previous game, everyday breaking down what happen in the first game over 30 minutes when it can take 30 seconds. Every day on the Radio callers calling in talking about the Rematch.

I'd rather watch the NBA.

I loathe the NBA.

The Liberty Bowl seems to have looked hard at Kentucky as their first choice. Bama is 6-6 (2-6 in the SEC), and cannot logically leapfrog the 7-4 Cats (4-3 in the SEC), regardless of tomorrow's outcome.

I have to say that I wouldn't relish the thought of Shreveport in late December- I would imagine that fate will be reserved for the Crimson Tide. I'd much rather see the Music City Bowl, but we'll see. Ark. losing today throws it all into a rather muddy picture, doesn't it?
