I'd like to see Barnes make history and opt out of the meaningless SECT. Risk of injury is too great and if you have to win 6 I'd rather see the streak start when it counts.
But I keep thinking back to 2022 when we won the SEC tournament and the joy and pride I had as a fan, and the look of sheer elation on the face of the players. As tough as our conference is, a tournament championship is a big deal.

If we run the gauntlet that is our last four games, we will lock down a 1 seed and it ain't even close. Guaranteed.

Probably locked in as the 4th overall, but still a one seed.
I’m assuming we’d draw Zona as our 2? I’d take that over being the 2 in Purdues, Houston’s, or Uconn’s bracket.

I’m sure nobody can opt out. But since they are pretty much assured of a high seed, I’d wager he wouldn’t be too unhappy if they got knocked out Friday or Saturday and didn’t have to play 3 or 4 in a row through Sunday. Get them rested and ready for the Dance. If they were still fighting for at least a two seed, I’d say go for the tournament title.

I agree to a degree, but we capable of beating these teams. We have improved and we throw a lot of different offensive and defensive looks at these teams. Seeding and Officiating will determine how far we go. Seeding will be based on $$$$ draw. Always been my thought. I think we end up with the 2 seed out west. It will be considered the weakest one and two seeds in the committees eyes and will draw the toughest 3-7 seeds from that region.

Yes, if we’re a #1, we will be in the West Region with Arizona as the #2. If we are a #2, we will be in the South or Midwest opposite either Houston or Purdue as the 1.

Do they deserve a one seed? Absolutely if they take care of business.

2019 tournament told me that the selection committee is flawed and play favorites with a stupid narrative as to why. Seriously, they are not telling you the truth anyway. It is all politics behind close doors.

2019 was deserving of a 1 seed and they selected Gonzaga, Virginia, UNC and Duke. 3 ACC teams as seeds.

I think we have at least a #2 seed locked up already.

We win Saturday and we will move above Arizona and North Carolina.
This is dubious at best ... assuming AZ and NC win their games ... our game is a ranked opponent on the road ... our win would be a higher 'quality' win, but people have favorites ... so it is NOT a sure thing.
I think we should lower our expectations a little.
Using bracketmatrix ...
AZ has 90+ 1 votes
NC has 10 1 votes
TN has 7 1 votes
My opinion, it is a real stretch to think we pass BOTH!
Frankly, that is the stuff fans dwell on to make sure their team is getting a fair shake ... winning the game is all I am thinking about at the moment

Purdue’s defense can be suspect at times. I would much rather be in their region than Houston or UConn. Also, let’s not forget they are the only program to get put out of the tournament 3 straight seasons by a 13 seed or worse. The last 2 seasons was a 16 seed and 15 seed that beat them.

This right here. Been saying it for weeks - I’d love to be in their region over the other two.

As of right now, they have the worst defensive metrics out of the top 6 teams in the KenPom ratings and the only one in that group that is not in the top 20 of both offensive and defensive efficiency. I would say it’s pretty much a no brainer you would want to be in their region over the other 1 seeds. And as we all know, the Big 10 gets exposed in the tournament year after year, always overrated.

The sweet 16 has also been Painter’s kryptonite since he’s been there. If not for the bogus call when we played them in 2019, he would be 0-6 in regional semifinals - many of those as a higher seed.

Just something to ponder.
The West Regional is in Los Angeles. Arizona has a huge number of alumni in that area. Plus it’s not super far from Tucson and their fans travel very well. They would have a HUGE home court advantage against us in an Elite Eight game in Los Angeles.
But, then again, Purdue would have a big advantage playing in Detroit as would Houston playing in Dallas and UCONN playing in Boston.
It’s a shame there is no Southeastern city regional this year.

I think you’re baiting me. LOL

There was a lengthy back-and-forth debate on this very topic last Sunday. I 100% agree with you, but a handful of posters seem to think we’ll have just as many fans in LA as we would in Dallas or Detroit.

Nope? Not bating you.
Any fans that don’t think Arizona would have a tremendous following in Los Angeles don’t know how to read a map.

And any fans that think we’ll have just as many fans travel across the country to Southern California as opposed to going to Dallas or Detroit are delusional and don’t understand logistics.

I cannot help but think that this year's schedule, players and results is built for a FF run.
Started the year with two exhibition games against solid teams MSU & Gonzaga
Played against three solid teams in the Maui Classic.
Versatility. Quality Depth with ability to go into a lot of different Defensive and offensive sets.
Key scorer and the ability of more than two players to light it up on a given night even the bench.
All players understand their roles and lessons the pressure.
DK is in a league of his own so he does not worry about the pressure as much
Played quality teams on the Road
Closing out with Tournament Teams on the schedule
SEC is stronger than ever So every our last 6-10 games have been tournament prep and test of how to adjust.

We have made tournament type teams look bad and won those type games that Bad tournament teams seek in on (1st Vandy game & Missouri)

Barnes is a good coach, but has had slipped in the past with adjusting the lineup. This year he has had a the depth, and the lineup to make quicker adjustments to rest or to solve problems. Best coaching year I think he has done but it is due to the tools at his disposal.

Our first 3 losses were due to youth and not working together. Newness and role clarification, plus tough games. NC, Kansas, Purdue. The other three were MS 2nd SEC game - Road game, Texas A&M tough - Road game and adjustments were too late (part of the growth process) USC game was better than most thought but we were flat at home.

I know it works both ways, but the officiating (Pat Adams) calls indicates that he and Barnes don't like each other. Major factor in the USCe game. Pat Adams called 3 fouls in 2 sec at the 17:21 mark 2nd half. Game was tied at 33-33.

Are the fans required to bring a shipping container of coal to LA? If not, I think most of us could get there and back without deploying any knowledge of logistics.
