Breakdown Of Arrest / Citations

Resisting arrest is a very gray area. Sometimes law enforcement like to sneak up behind someone they're going to arrest in order to get the handcuffs on. Especially when it concerns people bigger than them. The natural reaction is for the person to pull their arms away, turn around and look. Boom, there's your resisting arrest. That's all it takes. Not saying that's what happened here, but I'm not reading much into it.
The news in Middle Tennessee that I read says that officers were arresting the tenant holding the party and AJ tried to stop an officer from making that arrest
(hand on cops shoulder) and down went AJ. I think that's not a smart thing to do. If true. I like to let the process take it's course. Hopefully cops will back off.

I remember my college days. Guess we should stone them. Hell no! Not only did we drink; one of my brothers (who's name will not be mentioned) stole the beer truck.

We turned out just fine and so will they. Learn and move on!

Plus as I said before, they were all juiced! That alone will destroy your decision making.

I think that this is disappointing, but not surprising. These guys are still very young adults, who I think made at least a good decision to not be out driving. Like some have said already resisting arrest has a very broad scope as it is, add some liquid courage and anyone MAY act out. I am proud of the team and staff for having such a long drought between events. I'm sure CBJ will make them "Man up" to the issue and move on. It doesn't make it right but I made poor decisions at that age (give me the chance still could) and I have turned out pretty good (I think) GO Big Orange!!

idiots.what more can you say.

Whether they like it or not, all athletes are under a major microscope in everything they do! If they are going to drink underage, sit in your damn dorm room, drink and play video games! It's when you go out that you get in trouble. . .:bash:

From the way I understand it...

Cops show up for noise complaint - music is turned down, and as the cops are leaving, they turn the music right back up. Cops walk back up and tell them to turn it down again. Cops leave. No charges filed

Cops are called back to the location due to a fight, cops state about 90 people at the party with several underage.

Sapp is arrested as the home owner for supplying booze & Marijuana to the people at the party and underage people as well - As Sapp is attempting to be handcuffed, he kept resisting and attempting to pull away from the officer. AJ, notices his friend struggling, and grabs the cops shoulder and pulls him away from Sapp. Cops tackle Sapp, who is still resisting, and get him in cuffs.

AJ, lets go of the cop, and attempts to leave the location. But, is tackled from behind, and put into handcuffs as well while resisting being handcuffed.

O'Brien gave the cops a fake name, and when asked for ID gave the cops a fake ID from Alabama. He was then arrested as well.

The rest of the guys were having fun, enjoying the party, and not doing anything terribly wrong. The marijuana issue is scary, because CBJ supposedly ordered everyone to take a drug test, so hopefully nothing comes from that.

The underage drinking will be punished internally, AJ and O'Brien are looking at a 1-2 game suspension.

Theres rumors that AJ said if he was going to be suspended, he will enter the suplimental draft, and forgo this season, so it will be interesting to see how CBJ handles it. He would be a big loss, but at the same time, if he's giving the coach ultimatums I hope Coach doesn't back down.

Perhaps CBJ should invite the KPD Chief and some of his minions over for some steaks and drinks...............

wow, an awful lot of rationalization on these pages. IMO - you play loud music in an apt complex after 10 pm - expect to see police; you touch a policeman - expect to be taken down and see in the inside of a police station. You speak to a police officer - say 'yes sir and no sir.' then get an attorney if you have been wronged. Be a little smart and exercise the IQ points God gave you.

Is it illegal for underage persons to provide alcohol to other underage persons??? It seems they would be cited for underage consumption.

If you're over the age of 18 you get the double whammy illegal consumption AND contributing to the delinquency of a minor...anybody under 18

It will be interesting to see what kind of punishment CBJ doles out whether it be a game suspension or otherwise.

This is the only place I have seen anything about AJ putting his hands on a cop. I know definitions of resisting arrest can run the gamut, but if you put your hands on a cop in an aggressive manner at all, expect to be taken down hard.

From the article

Cops say they went to talk to Sapp ... but he was clearly wasted ... and they tried to take him into custody. That's when, cops say, senior linebacker AJ Johnson stepped in ... and grabbed a cop by the shoulder, in an effort to keep Sapp from being arrested.

And that could be touching the officer with a finger. Police reports have what they want in them.
"Hey officer, don't arrest my friend" turns into resisting arrest. Officer is prolly @ 5'4, 125

did the knox county sheriff office issue citations to all there or just the ut football players-I heard reports were that there was 200 folks there ,but I have not heard anything about anyone else being cited? funny you can rape someone like at a school to the west and get away with it ,but college kids doing what college kids do get arrested.no you shouldn't be drinking if you are under age but it happens a lot.

Alot of people are rationalizing this by saying they're only college kids having a good time. I call BS on that one. If you're the captain of an SEC football team on the rise after a long couple of years, expect yourself to be held to a higher standard.

bs is expecting a college kid to never make a mistake , I was drunk at a basketball banquet when I was 18, and worst I was with someone drinking and driving ,thank god we made it home but that was 40 years ago and I made a mistake!!!I never did that again, but it was a mistake by me myself ,thank god we made it home .I did wrong and I was young .I hope you never make a mistake!!!

How do you know what AJ did or didn't do? What if he was sober and trying to help? Is that not feasible? Officers say nothing about him being drunk or high. Or he is supposed to just not go at all?

Some of you wouldn't have survived the 80's on campuses. We wouldn't be able to field a team. This stuff happened all the time, except there was usually cocaine, weed, alcohol, and violence.
AJ obviously shouldn't have "attacked" the officer or whatever but I've seen too many guys that should be arrested at parties walk away while guys that didn't deserve anything were thrown in a car by an officer with an attitude.
12 cars. And underage drinking citations. And an empty one hitter with 100 people around? Knock on the doors of the next 5 houses and find more.
