Breaking news thread?

Like here would be my example

June 34th 10:13 PM
Burger updates topic

June 24th 10:11 PM
Breaking news thread test

June 24th 10:08 PM
*Insert player name* commits

June 24th 10:05 PM
*blah blah* has received a verbal offer and commits

And you could just continue editing. When you eventually run out of room in the post, you start knocking out the oldest updates.

#28
Also, whenever you update it, just post a bump in the topic or, I'm not sure if this board has it, but some places have just a bump button that make the thread show up as new topics

I would want all the updates in the first post so that way the people who get in late, as I mentioned, can catch up. It kinda sucks coming in late to a conversation and not knowing what the other's know.

Thing is, we have offered over 200 prospects and it's hard to keep up with them all. Everyone has a thread, let's just keep it more organized. That's what I want. Let everyone talk about what they would like in the thread, but let them go to get their info from the first post. It's a lot easier, IMO.

But would we really need posts from say weeks old? I mean, its just the breaking news thread. It isn't meant to be the whole database on a kid like the player profile topics would.

Sure. It would be REALLY cool to see a timeline for things like that. At least IMO it would.

Maybe just make it like a separate page and have it linked like how we have it up top?

I just wanted to make it as simple as possible really. I know that when I get home from work and see 7 new pages in the Scroggins thread, I'd really rather just check out one post to see if anything big happened.

Yeah, but we will be creating more pages and more work instead of making it organized. I agree that reading through 4 pages of stuff is frustrating, I think what I am suggesting would work if we could try it. It would take typing it out once and a copy/paste type function in the original post and it's done.

I don't understand how creating more threads solves the problems of having to go back and forth. That's just more for the average reader to have to go through.

If you don't have a new thread, like I said above, you are still going to have to click on all 200 prospect threads to find out if the first post has been updated with new news.

The thing is though that with that topic, the average person won't have to go to any recruits profiles unless they want to.

Example

Why bother to read 7 pages of Scroggins info, and 2 pages of Rettig information when you can just look in the topic and see something like

June 25th 11:25 PM
Chase Retting officially offered by Volunteers. Expected to commit within the next week

June 25th 11:00 PM
Jesse Scroggins commits to Volunteers

...etc?

It doesn't really create more threads . . . just a list of hot links that link back to the posts that have up to date news.

I think you missed my other point that we still post it in the flow of conversation, but when we do we just copy and paste it in the first post and that way if they don't want to wade through the conversation then they can just go to the first page. When people post updates anyway it goes to the top, so I guess maybe I don't see why you would click everyone of them to do that??

OK, I got that. That would be alright with me. We could still do what I am suggesting so that way when someone is wanting to read about a particular prospect they have all that info right there.

Because people are just wanting the updates and don't want to click every thread just in case there's news.

Apparently, we have a communication gap. I understand what you are saying but apparently you don't understand my point.

All we would have to do is post the info in the thread like GA is suggesting, then link it in a Hot News thread. I like it.

We could do it both ways I guess?

I wouldn't mind having like a chronological set of important info in the first post, but I think we'd run in to the same problem. You'll eventually run out of room.

My way is basically just making it easy for everyone to get important news about every recruit in a timely manner

Your way is making it a fairly easy way to look at a whole load of information on a certain prospect.

If I posted it and copy and pasted it, wouldn't that bump the thread and give us a timeline in the original post. I dig the idea of the Hot Links though.

Hmmm. You mean like a hot news links thread. There's an idea. Why didn't I think of that.

You would have to have A LOT of updates to run out of room.
