Breaking news thread?

You would have to have A LOT of updates to run out of room.

Maybe so. I'm not sure about the total amount of rooms in the post. Thats why I don't think it'd be a big deal with knocking out say some two or three month old breaking news updates if we get some new ones though.

I'm kinda lost on the idea of a hot links thing though. Could I get Cliffs of it real quick?

You link a specific post in a thread. It's like linking the thread, just puts you at a specific point in it. Like if there was a Scroggins update, this would be one....

Scroggins gets offer at USC camp....

That's what they are speaking about I believe.

Alright, thats awesome. So basically just my thing except with a link to the post about it? Sounds good to me.

If you don't have a new thread, like I said above, you are still going to have to click on all 200 prospect threads to find out if the first post has been updated with new news.

is there a way to just change the title of the thread or put a date and time next to it that signifies it has been updated with breaking news and when it was updated last.

so everytime the first post changes then the title of the thread get's updated as well showing the time and day.

example

10' CA QB Jesse Scroggins - last updated 6/24/09 - 10:14 pm

this also means several responsible people would need access to update the first post.

or maybe somehow the thread can be flagged. kind of like with email. so maybe an icon can be next to the thread signifying something new and exciting has happened with this particularly prospect within the last day or so.

That was my thought, as a solution. But that adds a bunch of extra work.

1. post news in player thread
2. update first post
3. change thread title
4. post link in hot news thread.

That's a pretty big process that has to happen for every news story on every kid we are tracking.

can the title be updated automatically when the first post is changed...that's kinda what i was getting at. then there wouldn't be a need for a hot news thread. if the title changes then that cues people to check it out.

so they see the recent news in the first post then they can join in on the posting fully updated on the prospect.

what about my other idea i edited in after the first thought?

Which one is that (I'm too lazy to read back through the thread :))

There isn't any way that I know of to update the thread title when the first post is updated.

how about it's easy enough to get info from this sight as it is and the people who run it probably don't need the headache of changing the entire way that the site works just so that we don't have to click on the scroggins thread five times a day...if people didn't fill the recruiting threads with ridiculous arguments and posts about facebook then this would not be a problem...whew...rant over i apologize to anyone i may have offended ie. (axion jaxon, and matt)

We want to encourage posting and discussion - but it does tend to get off topic.

We will figure out a solution -- we always do. :)

We could flag it with an icon beside it, but again, that would have to be done manually. There really is no way to automatically update everything.

I think we are on to something with the daily 'hot links threads' -- or weekly for that matter. It would be an easy way for people to quickly find what has been updated and is of importance.

here's an idea, put a limit on number of posts per day. something large like 50 or so. there's is no reasonable excuse for having over 50 posts in one day so it won't affect most members, and it will insure that some of the 2,000 post's in a month guy's don't fill up the recruiting threads with meaningless posts about what they think scroggins had for lunch and what it means for our chances.

Thanks for brainstorming with us. Hopefully, by putting our heads together, we can find the right solution.

Reading this just made my ears pop...

Hey Freak, go read the NCAA 10 contest thread...I just gave you the idea you are looking for in there.

Late to the discussion while I have an account and yet despise it at the same time how about something like how Twitter works? I mean how you can keep track of everyone you follow.

I don't know how it would work with details but would look something like this

(instead of the poster have the prospects name)
Jessie Scroggins: Received offer from Southern Cal while attending Trojans Camp.
6/24/09 3:00PM from CagleMtnVol
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Devrin Young: Reportedly receives verbal offer from Tennessee
6/24/09 2:43 from Vol_Freak

But I wouldn't keep a cap on the Number letters in a post like Twitter.

What you need is a locked thread and then have one or two guys picked to update with actual news. If it is to work it will be on the dedication of the dudes in charge of it. Let people have there fun in the regular threads.
