Newest weather models have the hurricane hitting on the Louisiana/Texas border! They also say the storm isn't weakening as originally thought. For the love of God, why are we even talking about playing this game? :shakehead:

Also, they have over 100 mile backups on the interstates down there stretching across both Texas and Louisiana.

It was reported in Memphis a few minutes ago that this is the deal they are trying to work out. Tennessee would move the South Carolina game from the 29th of October to later in the year. LSU would buy out their game with North Texas on that day and would play in Baton Rouge. Was the only date that was not a conference or "BIG" game for both on same day.

Well it sucks for those of us going to the game if it is played. I have to go to the game if they play it because if not, I am going to lose some significant money on tickets and they won't refund. I am already staying in MS and having to drive in... it would just be better on us all to cancel and work out a solution later. In the end... it might not matter whether we play the game or not. It would be fine to only have to play the game in the event it would make a difference in the conference standings.

==============

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer said Thursday afternoon he does NOT think the Tennessee-LSU game should be played as scheduled Saturday night in Baton Rouge.

Fulmer said he's concerned about safety, and said parents of some players have called concerned about the game. Baton Rouge could be affected by Hurricane Rita.

Tennessee players and coaches are scheduled to fly to Baton Rouge on Saturday morning. LSU, Tennessee and S-E-C officials have been meeting via conference call this afternoon to talk about whether the game should be held.

Ultimately, it's LSU's decision to make. Fulmer said he preferred to play the game at the end of the season.

I'm an old business guy, and I have dealt a lot with the bottom line.

Here is it: They are scared to hell of Erik Ainge getting a few more weeks under his belt before playing them.

They feel like we're weak on offense right now and they are petrified of moving this game back.

As it is, if Ainge regains his confidence we could easily win this game.

In the FL game our QBs couldn't hit a note with a player piano.

If that gets cured LSU doesn't have the defense to stop an accurate Ainge.

And I know they can't stop Riggs.

Truth of the matter is; they're scared of what a few extra weeks would do to their chances.

Any place, any time but not in a 'cane. Too much danger and liability. They're gonna contra-flow the interstate lanes out of NOLA. How can you drive to BR.

Time is on our side.

Play at all costs?

The storm will drastically affect the state of Louisiana. Resources for clean up and rescue will be diverted to have the game.

Players and student staff will miss at least 2 days of classes.

LSU - get a friggin' clue.

They could move it to AR since they don't have any team to speak of...

But really, it is to close to move the game to a neutral site... no way to get tickets issued and the event staffed. The only option is to work out a date later in the year... if that is possible

From The Commish:

PER SEC Sports

TENNESSEE-LSU GAME MOVED TO MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (September 22, 2005) – The Southeastern Conference has determined the Tennessee at LSU football game, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 24, has been moved to Monday, Sept. 26, Commissioner Mike Slive announced.

The change in the date was caused by concerns about Hurricane Rita. The game will be played at 6:30 p.m. CT and televised by ESPN2.

“After reviewing all of the information I felt this was the best decision for the game. The safety of our student-athletes, coaches and fans is our priority,” said Slive. “I understand this puts a burden on LSU and its administration, however, the travel safety issues necessitate this decision.”
