My excitement for this guy is tempered by the last guy. IIRC he was a safety too that came out of baseball. Seems he passed out in line at a fastfood restaurant and left the team some time later.

If this kid left a paying minor league gig because he couldn't learn to hit a professional slider then it may be a great thing. If he left because he partied too much or something like that then...

I guess I'll just wait and see on this too.

This is great. I hope he can still hack it, especially run that 40 in 4.4. I wish him the best of luck. I can't wait to hear how he practices for the first time in a while.

If he was offered a Scholly, obviously CDD "knows" he still got it and gave him a shot. I on't think CDD would give it to him out of the blueand without merit.

Vince Faison. I'm not holding my breath on Brewer. People were thinking Faison and Rozier would be "the next Kelly Washinton without the headache".

Someone said we got him in a position of need. While I am glad to have him on board (I think age and maturity will be real pluses), I don't see safety as a position of need.

Every position is a position of need when you only have 75 kids on scholly.

Welcome, Brent!

Brewer played for the Brewers lol :)

I am excited to have another player in the rotation for safety, it should increase the competion between Wagner and Myles.

Technically, he was a Huntsville Star. But he was an Arizona Brewer his rookie season.

He looks like a good athlete. I think it's a good addition.

"Brewer batted .240 with 17 home runs and 472 strikeouts in 427 games as a shortstop/outfielder in Milwaukee’s organization. He last played for Class AA Huntsville before deciding to leave baseball last month."

“With him having to approach baseball as a job, I think he’ll take that same approach in the locker room at Tennessee,” Walker said. “Not only will it help him but it will help some of those young guys there at Tennessee, too.”

"He’s a great athlete and he has a very good work ethic,” Walker said. “It’s going to be a pretty easy transition for him I would say.”

All 3 of those quotes were from govols.com, quoting his highschool football coach and his minor league coach. he had more strike outs than games played was one reason he left, he also said he felt burnt out from baseball and wanted to try to make his mark in football because he is bigger, stronger, and faster than he was in highschool. he's been at his highschool the last 3 weeks watching flim, running drills and getting perpared to make an impact. lest also not forget that in justin wilcox's D he often uses 4 or 5 or 6 DB's, usually consisting of a 3 or 4 safety look in passings situtations and blitzs from all areas of the field, imagine having a 6'2 205 lb safety running a 4.4 comming at brantley next year in his first sec game, brantley will be praying those lil 180lb backs can chip brewer or or he'll be crushed. also don't forget, he played centerfield in baseball, free safety and centerfield are the same concept, locate the ball in the air, track it, and make the catch. he has plenty of speed to cover lots of ground guys. lets see how he adjusts before making a decision on him, i mean come on his hasnt even played a practice snap yet

Good to hear. His maturity will be a big asset this year, considering the position of the program. He's undoubtedly a great athlete. He will fit in nicely.

IMHO, Brewer was a more of an impact on the Football field than Baseball. Very fast, Very strong...he is a natural football player. In high school he could take over a game.

There is an article up on Rivals about this guy. How many years of eligibility does he have?

Safety is definitely a position of need.

You basically have Myles and Jackson and then question marks after them. Also, chances are Jackson will only be around for 2 more seasons.

If you don't want a dropoff in 2012 then you need to start adding depth now. That is why this staff has prioritized guys like Walls, Randolph and Martin.

WR and RB are the only 2 positions on UT's roster that aren't positions of need. And even RB can be argued with BB leaving.

They feel good about LB depth as well which I found puzzling. I guess even guys like Lathers will look better once they have a clue what they are doing. The Ole Miss game was one of the worst performances by a MLB I have seen at UT.

Brewer should contribute this year.

I'm guessing he'll be contending for the safety spot. In place of Darren Myles. From what I've heard he's pretty dang athletic and it wouldn't be shocking if he contributed a lot this yr.
