His "mindset" is meaningless. Brian Williams has the same chance of becoming Charles Oakley that Lady Gaga does of becoming Jessica Alba.Speaking of wagging fingers...
Anyway, I never compared BW to those guys. I said that's what he could be with the right mindset.
Some people seem to be only able to see negative. Just as well; few things make me happier than nauseating Hat.

Outside of quickness, lower body strength, and lift off the floor?

Oooo. Right. When I think of quickness and leaping ability, I think of Eaton, Mutombo, and Oakley. My bad.
As far as lower body strength goes, that may be a valid point. I haven't been around him in the weightroom. But I would guess that someone like BW, who has carried extra weight most of his life, should have some pretty developed leg musculature.
I did not compare Williams to anyone. What I did say is that he could fill that role on this UT team at this level of basketball.
I will not argue the point that Williams is a good defender. He's not right now. But any good defender will tell you that the biggest part is mental: attitude, intelligence, hustle. Being 6-10 and 270+ can't hurt.
Please explain to me how you know that he cannot get any better. You state it as a fact, so please prove it.
Anyone who thinks that mindset can't make you a better player just hasn't been paying attention. See Vernon Davis. See David Leaverton. See Johnathon Crompton (were you one of those that stated that Cromp was just a horrible QB, and could not get any better?). None of them got bigger, stronger, or faster. They just gained the right frame of mind.
I believe that to be an erroneous statement, because I have seen him play very well at times.
It's as simple as this: have you seen him play well? The honest answer has to be 'yes'. But he reverts back to lazy defense, mental mistakes, and lack of focus. So the next question is: if you eliminated those mistakes, and left only the rebounding and better effort on defense, would he be a valuable member of the team? The answer to this also must be 'yes'.
The final question: are his mistakes mental or physical? I haven't seen any mistakes that weren't due to laziness, lack of focus, or complete brain cramps. And I believe those can be corrected with the right mindset. He can rebound; I've seen it. He can play defense; I've seen that too. If he'd just focus and do it consistently, he could be that guy.
