Saturday will be our 120th meeting against UK, a team have played annually for 81-straight years. We hold a 84-26-9 edge, including wins in 36 of the last 40 meetings.

The Barrel represents the Vols superiority over Kentucky, I can't see them ever agreeing to play for the Barrel again, no matter what liquid is in it.

This!!

The barrel could be a sign of friendship between Kentucky and Tennessee if we included it in all men’s team sports. Take the barrel on basketball and baseball trips. Winner holds on to it until next time.

It wouldn’t be so oppressive if it wasn’t one event for the entire year.

no. It was born in football and it should be reinstated, but I think we should keep it for football as originally intended.

There is no friendship between KY and TN in sports.

Take the opportunity with the restart of the tradition to change it to the Whiskey Barrel. That's what both states are known for, after all.

Go Vols!
Calling it the Beer Barrel never made much sense, given the two states' whiskey heritage. And whiskey is aged in barrels.

How many dates and scores can the barrel hold? 120 entries is a lot. It might have to be repainted to make the scores smaller. That's a lot of Vol history in there. Did the barrel date back before Bear and the General. It's a damn shame that PC ended the barrel.

The Barrel meant something back in the day but the loss in 1950 game for Kentucky was described as “It was a perfect day for a funeral,” the Louisville Times reported in 1950 on Kentucky’s only loss in its best season ever.

It was the crossroads of this rivalry when No. 9 Tennessee won 7-0 over previously unbeaten No. 3 Kentucky. It catapulted the Vols to a national championship a year later, but the Wildcats were never that good again.

It started in 1925.

It wasn’t PC that ended the barrel.

C. M. Newton, the UK AD certainly wasn't a PC guy.

It was ended due to a fatal alcohol related accident before the game and not wanting to have the trophy for the game be alcohol related. That has nothing to do with political correctness.

Some people just like to blame everything they don’t like on “wokeness” or political correctness because it reinforces their worldview…no matter how much of a stretch it is.
