British Open

Fortune simply smiled on Harrington. He hit the worst 3rd on 18 in regulation that I could even imagine. The up and down from there was great. He got an unbelievably good hop on 17 in the playoff, but missed the 5 footer (which admittedly broke more than Sergio's putt would have suggested). His wedge into 18 in the playoff was as poor of a wedge shot as you'll see a pro hit. He two putted and the rest is history, but he was gagging ferociously at the end. Finally, have I mentioned that Porig is the slowest player on earth?

Yes, if anybody choked in regulation, it was Paddy. To hit it in the water twice on 18 when bogey will win it is not the sign of steady nerves. It is kind of exceptional to think that he made double after dunking it twice, though.

Romero gets a pass because of his youth, I guess. If he ever figures out how to take the stupid holes out of his game, he is going to be scary.

I've never seen an ego from Phil... I've surely seen it from Tiger Woods, though. He's earned the right to have an ego.. before anyone goes crazy on me.

Golf Channel made a good point last night about scar tissue building up for Sergio. The more bad memories, the harder to leap the hurdle.

The same was true for Mickelson. I'm not sure this 2nd will hurt Sergio any worse than the other majors where he had a chance to win on Sunday. The guy will, in all probability, be a multiple major winner by the time he is finished.

Tiger looks like his mind is not on the golf course by the way. That singular focus he is famous for missed the plane to Scotland...

I missed a plane to Scotland once. Had to spend the night in Reston, Va.

So you buy the Mickelson media blitz that he's just a sweet-hearted family guy that smiles all the time and just wants to hit at pins because that's what the fans love

I think there's a lot more to him than that. But do I think he's an arrogant jerk? No.. not generally. Everyone is capable of being that way.. but I don't think it defines him.

Have you spent time with him?

From what little I've watched, he seems like a genuine guy... but maybe I'm just buying what the media says.

My mom has met him a couple of different times at the Canadian Open.... he, Payne Stewart, and Paul Azinger were all sweethearts. They all spent time chatting with her, and were very down to earth and friendly. A lot of them weren't friendly at all, Tiger Woods being one of them.

Spent enough time around other tour players to hear the scuttlebutt. Don't want to bury the guy here based upon thrid party conversations, but I believe their portrait more than I believe the TV version.

Well, it's cool.. we can all believe what we want. He's no angel... I wouldn't expect him to be, but I have no reason to believe he's a first class jerk. He always seems to get along with the other golfers, I never see any bad body language.. they all talk and joke around with him. Certain other golfers seem to be at odds with someone different everytime you turn around, and if you don't know who I'm talking about.. then you don't watch golf. Phil is my favorite player, I enjoy watching him play golf, listening to him speak.. I just enjoy him in general, I guess. That's not about to change, I'm more than satisfied with my choice of golfer. :mf_surrender:

Who do they consider to be the more genuine guys out there, what you see is what you get, and who are the tour favorites among the guys on tour?

I'm betting all of this has been answered in the big golf thread... but I'm about 900 posts behind and don't feel like digging.

Why are you asking him? You won't get fact.. you'll just get someone's opinion. You need to form your own opinion on stuff, not go by what someone else says.

I know, but I'm just curious who the pros consider. I'll still think about the individual players what I want and I still like Mickelson just as much, just curious is all.

I think Mickelson probably is a nice guy just like 90% of the guys on Tour, but has reputation for always trying to be the smartest guy in every room. Often times during interviews you find yourself thinking, "Man he likes to hear himself speak."

Laura has a point, so I'll keep what I know to myself.

I actually like Phil as a player because he's aggressive and always seems to be the underdog. He has a very endearing frailty about his game that makes him easy to root for. Watching him with a lead is akin to watching the Vols and dreading the prevent. You sorta know the 3 jacks are coming, but you root like heck that they don't.
