Brown or Mompremiere

Russell will be the only Post on this team if we don't get any from the 2016 class, Graves and Moore will be seniors next year so it is VERY important that we land Post/Bigs in that 2016 class.

Not getting a center or power forward was a huge miss in this class. The emergence of Moore will help some, but there is no guarantee that Russell will come back from her surgery and be effective. I think she will likely be fine, but even if she is we screwed the pooch as far as recruiting to our needs because we will still be short on numbers at two key positions.

It is little things like this that can keep a program from ever being able to the turn the corner. We have our elite player in Diamond. But we are missing the pieces to go with her. I think Holly has done a good job overall, but this is a pretty big failure. It will be interesting to see if they go out and try to get a big body just so they can even scrimmage properly.

I also think deficiencies like these will largely show up against the elite teams or teams who can really exploit our lack of depth in the post. Given the way SEC refs randomly generate fouls it might also rear its head in league play. What will we have? Moore and Russell as centers and Graves as the power forward? That is pretty damn thin. Neither Moore nor Graves are space eaters and you need some of those.

So while I think Holly has done a good job and has the team improving there is no sugar coating the fact that we whiffed here. We will have to try to make up for it in other ways.

Bingo. The other thing is it generally takes post players longer to adapt to the college games. Moore was a nonfactor until this year, as was Izzy as a freshman. It would have been ideal to have one come in and learn for a season before Graves and Moore graduate when she would really be needed. Now, they will be depending a lot more on a true freshman for the 2016 season. And as you mention, with Russell being injury prone they are already going to be dangerously thin....

Tennessee can use Diamond the same way that Indiana uses Catchings. Play her at the 4 to create an defensive mismatch for the other team. She's a decent enough rebounder and she's physical enough that she can defend most college 4's. Her ballhandling and shooting range will open things up inside for Mercedes or the guards to slash. They can Dunbar in similar fashion (who is a bit sturdier).

It's not ideal, but it's an option to address the shortage of post talent. They will by no means be the only one. After Stewart graduates, UConn will only have the transfer from Georgetown as a true low post presence.

Dunbar will be playing the Stretch 4 the majority of her career. This concept is being used heavily in all levels of basketball. She is perfect for it, but we really do need some young posts.

Justis Szczepanski-Beavers.

Thanks, wonder if she signed before the other two? And how is Kim goong to make room for 17-18? Earlier Baylor posters said the Australian kid was definitely playing this year. Maybe she changed her mind.

I wonder if Mulkey will renew the series with Tennessee now since she feels she has the weapons to contend for a NC?

Actually she verballed in May and spent all summer writing her name on the LOI so it would be finished by last week!

Isn't Baylor in Waco--a nowhere, texas town with a large contingent of christian crazies and rednecks--that singular texas mix? I can't imagine a Miami native wanting to go that school, but then I'm not a fan of texas (except Austin).

Unless they have behaved in an unprofessional manner, bent the rules, or presented an air of disengagement when interacting with the recruit, the coaching staff cannot be blamed when a recruit chooses another school.

This is hilarious. So no one is to blame when you go jack squat on your key position of need. But I bet they get credit when they do *good* right? But when they fail, it's not their fault.

I think you need to go back to the SUMMITT board where only positive posts are allowed.

Holly never was a good recruiter, never closed the big guns and it shouldn't be a shock that she's not succeeding (to the previous standard) in this key part of her job.

This. The Lady Vols aren't recruiting at an elite level and haven't for a while. Many reasons for that but now it's at Holly's feet. And Holly doesn't have the will, political clout or know how (not a recruiter) to change it.

Pretty soon the stat will be every class has at least made it to one S16.

Then you need to explain what you think Holly and her staff should have done differently. In actuality, they have done quite WELL in recruiting (you don't do "good" unless you are performing charitable acts). They did not fail at all -- next year, they have Cooper, Jackson, and, of course, the National Freshman of the Year DeShields. They will need a post or two in the 2016 class, and I'm pretty sure they will get one (or two). So piss off.

I don't post on the Summitt and I think you need to shove your negativity, snookums.

Holly never was a good recruiter,

Oh really? LOL On the contrary, she's quite a good recruiter.

never closed the big guns

Russell? DeShields? Cooper? Nared? Middleton?

and it shouldn't be a shock that she's not succeeding (to the previous standard) in this key part of her job.

Yes, actually, she is. Very much so.

As I said, piss off. It's pretty obvious you don't have the slightest clue what you are talking about.

Ivyleauge you do know there are fake Tennessee fans that come here to stir the pot. There is no need to respond to ignorant comments. Ask yourself this. How is Holly and staff not recruiting at a high level when she sign Russell who was the #1 player in her class along with Tucker who was #8 and would of sign #3 Davis if it wasn't for her mother wanting to control who Tennessee recruited. Then signed an amazing class last season and has 2 elite guards on the way. Don't entertain the stupidity!

I've been around the block for a while on message boards. I am a participant on many, most of which are not in the least Vol related. I understand perfectly that there are trolls on every single forum out there. You don't have to defend Holly or her staff or this team to me. I know that they are doing a fabulous job. Trust me, I'm not responding to these individuals because I don't know any better. I know exactly what they are. Fault me only because I find them entertaining. :)

It's a troll, ivy. Look at all 3 of its posts. I say ignore it, and it hopefully will go away.

I know. I think I've identified him and a couple of others as trolls long before now. At some point, you do ignore. But not before having a little fun.

Baylor has been pulling players from Florida for several years now. They've gotten a few Florida players of the year.
