Not getting a center or power forward was a huge miss in this class. The emergence of Moore will help some, but there is no guarantee that Russell will come back from her surgery and be effective. I think she will likely be fine, but even if she is we screwed the pooch as far as recruiting to our needs because we will still be short on numbers at two key positions.
It is little things like this that can keep a program from ever being able to the turn the corner. We have our elite player in Diamond. But we are missing the pieces to go with her. I think Holly has done a good job overall, but this is a pretty big failure. It will be interesting to see if they go out and try to get a big body just so they can even scrimmage properly.
I also think deficiencies like these will largely show up against the elite teams or teams who can really exploit our lack of depth in the post. Given the way SEC refs randomly generate fouls it might also rear its head in league play. What will we have? Moore and Russell as centers and Graves as the power forward? That is pretty damn thin. Neither Moore nor Graves are space eaters and you need some of those.
So while I think Holly has done a good job and has the team improving there is no sugar coating the fact that we whiffed here. We will have to try to make up for it in other ways.

Unless they have behaved in an unprofessional manner, bent the rules, or presented an air of disengagement when interacting with the recruit, the coaching staff cannot be blamed when a recruit chooses another school.

This is hila.rious. So no one is to blame when you go jack squat on your key position of need. But I bet they get credit when they do *good* right? But when they fail, it's not their fault.
I think you need to go back to the SUMMITT board where only positive posts are allowed.
Holly never was a good recruiter,
never closed the big guns
and it shouldn't be a shock that she's not succeeding (to the previous standard) in this key part of her job.
This. The Lady Vols aren't recruiting at an elite level and haven't for a while. Many reasons for that but now it's at Holly's feet. And Holly doesn't have the will, political clout or know how (not a recruiter) to change it.
Pretty soon the stat will be every class has at least made it to one S16.
Ivyleauge you do know there are fake Tennessee fans that come here to stir the pot. There is no need to respond to ignorant comments. Ask yourself this. How is Holly and staff not recruiting at a high level when she sign Russell who was the #1 player in her class along with Tucker who was #8 and would of sign #3 Davis if it wasn't for her mother wanting to control who Tennessee recruited. Then signed an amazing class last season and has 2 elite guards on the way. Don't entertain the stupidity!
Isn't Baylor in Waco--a nowhere, texas town with a large contingent of christian crazies and rednecks--that singular texas mix? I can't imagine a Miami native wanting to go that school, but then I'm not a fan of texas (except Austin).
