Brown or Mompremiere

All you can do is move on to the 2016 class. She went where she felt was best for her. There are plenty of post and you can only hope we can sign at least 2. I hope the staff is taking a serious look at 6'4" post from Louisville. I will keep an eye on Baylor to see how all this works out with all these players.

I only want girls who want to be Lady Vols. Girls who would kill to be a Lady Vol. All these others I don't care about. The thing that surprises me though is when Holly hired these assistants everyone raved about what great recruiters they are. They have signed some good girls and seem to be developing them pretty well but not seeing the killer recruiting that everyone speculated about.

Russell, DeShields, Middleton, and Nared are or will be great players, in my opinion, so I have to disagee

Mompremiere chose baylor too? That is strange. She must have hit it off with Brown--but they both can't play at the same time, I don't think, so kind of an odd decision for a florida girl. We got beat on her.

Were fine if Mercedes is able to play next season. She will take Harrison's place and we add several perimeter players.

Jackson Freshman
Cooper Freshman
Nared Sophomore
Dunbar Sophomore
Middleton Sophomore
Deshields Sophomore
Russell Sophomore
Tucker Sophomore
Reynolds Junior
Carter Junior
Moore Senior
Graves Senior
Jones Senior

Makes that sophomore class rather huge and we'll have five scholarships to give.

Wow wasn't expecting her to chose them especially after Brown's commitment just last week. her and Brown clicked and probably decided to go to the same school i mean she did put them back on her list after her visit to Tennessee.
i wonder if they will move on straight to the 2016 or if they will look at some Juco players. i don't know anything about Teaira McCowan.

I am now convinced the whole leaning one way or another means very little. No one had her choosing between let alone choosing Baylor. Clearly for her it was about Brown, or Mulkey. If Mulkey is smart, she'll play them together

FYI i just read a Miami newspaper article, It was between us and Baylor, She had eliminated OSU, Miami, and UNC over the weekend. As I suspected she wanted to go to a school with a true center like Brown, She prefers to play PF

Epic fail by Holly. UT sorely needed a big in this class....

I was wondering when you'd show up . . . with p.o.s. fans like Darth_Vol, who needs enemies?

UConn's loss last night must have really put you in a foul mood today. I can only imagine . . . you sitting there waiting in anticipation, your light saber in hand, for the moment you spy Geno and get to watch his Huskies crush Stanford . . . only to witness their crushing defeat. So sad.

Maybe one day you will realize both you and your comments are wholly unimportant.

Baylor signed not Two but Three post players to this class...Wow!

Darth's comments are as important as your comments, whatever you viewpoint. Hit the ignore button if you don't like Darth. Isn't the purpose of this board to express one's opinions? I agree that Holly needed to sign at least one post and obviously this did not happen. Not sure if it is an epic fail, but with Mercedes coming off surgery another post is needed. Better go big for '16, forwards and posts.

No, actually, they are not. Darth_Vol is what we call a troll . . . someone whose sole purpose is to stir s*** on message boards. His only comments involve whining, complaining, and bashing Holly Warlick. No value or importance to what he says whatsoever.

Hit the ignore button if you don't like Darth.

Why would I do that? My engagement on discussion boards does not involve ignoring people I don't like. Quite the contrary, actually.

Isn't the purpose of this board to express one's opinions?

Have you ever taken a good look at Darth_Vol's comments? He never -- never -- has anything good to say. His only purpose is to bash Holly and her coaching staff. Period. He has no other goal. The point of a discussion board is to discuss -- not to use it as your personal soapbox solely to ***** about someone you have an unreasonable problem with . . . especially when that individual likely doesn't even know you personally.

It would have been useful, but it wasn't absolutely necessary for 2015. It will be very important for the coaching staff to sign a post (or better yet, a couple) for 2016. With Graves, Moore, and Russell returning next year (along with a bevy of big guards), the need isn't critical for 2015.

Not sure if it is an epic fail, but with Mercedes coming off surgery another post is needed. Better go big for '16, forwards and posts.

It wasn't an epic fail. I'm not sure what some people expect -- a coach cannot force a recruit to sign. Many years ago, highly ranked recruits had only a handful of options (Tennessee being among them) if they were serious about their basketball careers. Today, there are quite a few more choices (Tennessee still being among them). Fifteen or twenty years ago, factors that had to take a backseat due to the relative lack of parity in women's basketball (a school's location, a recruit's connections with alumni for a particular school, where a recruit's friends attend, academic offerings) can now be reasonably considered when a recruit is considering schools.

As I said in an earlier post, the coaching staff can be blamed if they break the rules, behave unprofessionally, or present an air of disengagement or relative disinterest when discussing their program, school, facilities, and team with the recruit and her family. I don't think any of those things are even a remote possibility with Holly and her staff. I'm not sure how anyone can say Holly and staff failed (especially "epically") just because Brown and Mompremier chose to go elsewhere. At the end of the day, where they attend college is THEIR choice. Not Holly's, not her staff's, not anyone's but THEIRS. I have absolutely no doubt that Holly is passionate about the Lady Vols program and about UT. I have no doubt that she puts the absolute best foot forward in recruiting, is engaging, personable, and beyond competent in explaining exactly how a particular recruit will benefit and be utilized within the Lady Vols program. If a recruit decides the program isn't for her, that's not Holly's fault. It's not anyone's fault. It is what it is. There will be other top recruits, and Holly and company will continue to get their fair share of them. But the fan base is deluding itself if it thinks she can get ALL of them. In this age of parity in women's basketball, that simply isn't a reasonable or realistic view to hold.

Not getting a center or power forward was a huge miss in this class. The emergence of Moore will help some, but there is no guarantee that Russell will come back from her surgery and be effective. I think she will likely be fine, but even if she is we screwed the pooch as far as recruiting to our needs because we will still be short on numbers at two key positions.

It is little things like this that can keep a program from ever being able to the turn the corner. We have our elite player in Diamond. But we are missing the pieces to go with her. I think Holly has done a good job overall, but this is a pretty big failure. It will be interesting to see if they go out and try to get a big body just so they can even scrimmage properly.

I also think deficiencies like these will largely show up against the elite teams or teams who can really exploit our lack of depth in the post. Given the way SEC refs randomly generate fouls it might also rear its head in league play. What will we have? Moore and Russell as centers and Graves as the power forward? That is pretty damn thin. Neither Moore nor Graves are space eaters and you need some of those.

So while I think Holly has done a good job and has the team improving there is no sugar coating the fact that we whiffed here. We will have to try to make up for it in other ways.

What do you think Holly and her staff could have or should have done differently? A coaching staff cannot lock a recruit in a room until she agrees to sign, at least if they want to stay out of jail. Breaking/bending NCAA rules to land a recruit doesn't seem to be Holly's style (and that's a good thing). What do you think Holly and her staff should have done or could have done that they didn't do in order to convince two recruits with a LOT of viable options to come to UT?

If people are going to make claims that the coaching staff "failed epically" or "whiffed" when it comes to the two recruits in question, explain what you think should have been done differently that you think the staff didn't do.

I include Diamond in this class, thus, there's no way the word "fail" can be included in a description of the 2014 recruiting season. Obviously, Baylor came in a swooped up Mompremier in the 11th hour, however, from her coach's comments today it was apparent that she preferred to play PF and desired a dominant center to play alongside (Kalani Brown).

It would have been nice to get one but this was a very poor class for posts and PF's. They should have decided who they wanted earlier and targeted her early. However, that being said, I like being guard heavy. Guards are who win championships. Now if you have a post who plays like a guard then that is even better like Parker. But, I don't think either of those girls fit that bill. Lauren Cox in next year's class. She is a post who plays like a guard. Somebody like her would be a game changer. Also, there are a lot of posts and forwards in next year's class.
