bruce feldman article

I really liked how the article detailed how Coach Jones, throughout his life has started at the bottom and worked his way up to the top. Starting as a dishwasher, or a laundry boy, he started at the bottom and worked his way up. And that is really what he is facing here. He has been a proven winner at everything he has done. I am not going to use names of any previous coaches, but Coach Jones proves my a theory I stand by. A winner is always going to find a way to win, and a loser is always going to find a way to lose. This article has gotten me more pumped up than my morning coffee has.

I almost threw up when CBJ said at the end of the article that players have to "believe in the PROCESS"

Jk - I knew what he meant, and I really like this guy.

One thing about CBJ has the perfect opportunity to build a legacy of his own right here at Tennessee. He can go in to the list of greatest coaches to ever coach here and be feared by other coaches in the league.

So far he seems to be laying the foundation for this very thing. As a volunteer I'm very proud to have this man representing our university.

A coach that ''gets it'' profiled by a journalist that "gets it".
A big thank you to the OP! :good!:

I think Feldman felt bad after the Vonn Bell prediction...there was some flak but everybody misses one. Whenever I see his name on a piece I read it and have never been disappointed...this one captured the new spirit of the Butch era perfectly

Amen...this is something different we're seeing here...Butch is doing it differently and with more positive tempo than it's ever been done in Knoxville...legacy indeed

Asked how a team that had the talent it had offensively in 2012 couldn't even make a bowl game, Ja'Wuan James paused for a few seconds. "It was lack of leadership, I hate to say," adding that he's convinced that'll be different now. Players are allowed to have fun again. Coaches and players are developing better relationships.

"His level of accessibility in 2013 is pretty incredible," said the AD. "Now our talent level isn't what it needs to be in this league, but that's recruiting.
Remember this... It takes 3 or 4 solid recruiting classes before anything major can happen.

Jones has a tough job ahead of him but the opportunity is HUGE and he knows it and shows it. The payoff isnt just pay raises and trophies, its becoming the most loved and recognized man in an entire state.

Good read. I liked seeing those stories from his youth about where he's been and what he's done.

First I think hart n cheek are idiots ... N he had to try n act like he reached out to gruden which if he really felt he did everything to get him he would have said nothing except I got the best coach for ut to win now... im finished venting...

On cbj I like the things he is saying n where he is at on recruiting. In reality his base is there to win some ball games but I still wonder if he can us past fla bama and Lsu. That was the bar Dave hart should have had as a hire. I hope cbj can get it done.

I still wonder about fans when we get beat by the duck n gators n then he loses to GA at home.. what will be the tone the rest of the season?? A bowl game this year would be huge.

The more I read about the Dooley days it leads me to believe he acted like a spoiled little rich kid around there. Although he was very comical he came off like a huge smart ass! Nobody likes a smart ass, especially one that loses to Kentucky and Vandy.

I like Jones so far. I think he's hungry. Dooley never seemed hungry. These young men like all this music and chest bumping at practice, hell give it to them. Dooley was apprehensive to have that atmosphere from what I've heard. It'll be interesting to hear all the Dooley dirt as time goes on.

He's got a little bit of swagger in him and I like that. He's no nonsense, but he can relate to "today". In that, I mean he seems to interact well with the players on their level, being involved with Twitter and other things similar.....somewhere between Kiffin and Franklin.

This was a great article. I love the energy and optimism. Can't wait for Football Season!!! So glad to hear that the kids are having fun again. I played ball at a small college and having fun (while winning) creates some of the best memories that you will ever have.....tilt head, look off into the distance, laugh a little bit, back to writing on volnation.....
GO VOLS!!

This.. I also really like the fact that he wants each player to know who played the same position in the past. I'm old now (40) and these players were tots when Raynoch, Al, Big E, Fred, etc. were wearing the "T" and taking names as they went on their Rampage not too long ago. Everyone knows Peyton, but they should also know names like Tony, Andy, Casey, Earnest, Mr Mimms, JJ, TK1, C McRae, Reggie, Willie, Beattie, Johnny, General, Delong, Pickens, Tee, Heath, Peerless, Travis, etc. etc. etc. etc.....etc...

Exciting article, we will need to keep this in mind, that the future is bright, while we go 6-6 this year.

Recovery is always hard. What keeps you going is seeing progress. That's all I expect this year.

I get the same feeling from Butch that I did from Bruce Pearl...enthusiasm and confidence that we will win and be relevant again....I hope he can bring the same kind of results....ESP the No 1 ranking....

Until the Mizzou fiasco I was holding out for a low level bowl bid in the hopes that some small victory could be the miracle spark of a turnaround. The dual blessing/curse of being a devoted fan is this sometimes blind faith. Coach Dooley was not a scumbag, just misdirected and over his head on this big stage...like the successful coaches in the SEC, he believed his course of action would succeed...he shouldn't have. What Butch is unveiling with family, tempo and overall energy in practice and personal interactions has led to high profile recruits committing early and on their own recruiting others with a gusto I've never seen in this program. I don't know how fast the big victories will take but it's gonna be a lot more fun while we wait!

I'm sure I'll be hated on for this, but I really think had Dooley been given a chance at another place, a bigger school like in the ACC or the Big East or something first, and learned what to do and not do there, he would've been fine in the SEC eventually. We know he makes decent calls, see trick plays against bama/mizzou/etc. But he just wasn't a people person and had some flaws in his system that needed to be worked out at a level that isn't the highest in the country. 5 or 10 years at a UNC or a UCONN or some place like that and he'd be just fine, but as of now he'll be lucky to get a HC job anywhere in college now.
