I'm sure I'll be hated on for this, but I really think had Dooley been given a chance at another place, a bigger school like in the ACC or the Big East or something first, and learned what to do and not do there, he would've been fine in the SEC eventually. We know he makes decent calls, see trick plays against bama/mizzou/etc. But he just wasn't a people person and had some flaws in his system that needed to be worked out at a level that isn't the highest in the country. 5 or 10 years at a UNC or a UCONN or some place like that and he'd be just fine, but as of now he'll be lucky to get a HC job anywhere in college now.

May Rod have mercy on your soul...

Decent calls? Did you watch the Mizzou game???

But I can't entirely disagree with you. He went from a crap school to a disaster in the #1 conference. You could tell he was a rookie out there and even saw some progression from him. I hope he gets another shot as well.

In his third year, Dooley still had administrative issues getting the correct number of players on the field. His play calling was lacking: see lack of TO used in the MO game and Akron game

I'm just going to disagree...no AD is going to sign up for that "experiment". I know that the ACC or Big East aren't dominant conferences in football but no one is going to stake their reputation on a guy that "needs to find his way" that just doesn't simply happen in sports anymore. Period.

Met Bruce while he was in town. He told me "Tennessee is in good hands."

We talked quite a bit; he mentioned the line as a strength, but was not impressed with QB or WR.

You should read his blog post from earlier in the week about Tiny, it was also a good read.

Is our OL being good new news?? Also, not many would say that Worley and Peterman are 2 QBs to overlook.

-Bruce was a proven coach that had won at previous stops.
-Bruce didnt make excuses when he took over talent that had just finished the previous year with a losing record.
-Bruce embraced the UT traditions, fans and former players.
-Bruce ran at about 8k RPMs all the time.
-His personality quickly impacted the fan base.

Most important, Bruce turned around a fledgling program immediately. The fans jumped in with both feet.
You make your conclusion.

Asked how a team that had the talent it had offensively in 2012 couldn't even make a bowl game, Ja'Wuan James paused for a few seconds. "It was lack of leadership, I hate to say," adding that he's convinced that'll be different now. Players are allowed to have fun again. Coaches and players are developing better relationships.

:clapping:

Hate to be that guy.... But we heard this from players seemingly word for word this time last year.

No--the line playing well is expected. Not many UT fans overlook them, but Worley was a 3 star while Peterman didn't have any instate offers. I think...

They should be competent but will be a step down from last season. My point was talent is still lacking in key places and Feldman noticed while observing practice.

My conclusion - If Bruce had embraced the UT traditions, he wouldn't be a liar. If Bruce had embraced the UT traditions, he wouldn't have embarrassed the University and himself. My conclusion - Bruce is gone.

I suspect you LOVE being THAT GUY

No, not really. Just find it ironic that the players are saying what they said last year. And I know how posters hate "that guy" who doesn't share their irrational optimism about everything UT 100% of the time

Ok...so you never lied before? In a moment of panic.....what he did initially was a very minor minor secondary violation....he had a BBQ with some recruits who were already committed to us....I would take him back in a minute over Cuonzo....excitement and winning and NCAA tournament appearances....

Besides I have sinned just as bad or worse....so get off your high horse

Sorry, civilized discussion without ignorance toward other people's obervations must be a bit over your head.

I know you Texans struggle with that sort of thing.:hi:

???? Helluva conclusion there. You clearly don't like him and he clearly screwed up - which he has admitted to and apologized for, over and over again. But you can't deny the success he had here. I wish he hadn't lied about what would've been a secondary violation worthy of a slap on the wrist. I also wish he was still my basketball coach .... no offense to CM.
