No more green light from 3. Chism has killed 2 big runs in games that we clawed our way back from a huge deficit with a jacked up 3.

We have 4 on Patterson, the ball, momentum, and a chance to cut the lead to 5, possibly 4, and what do we do? 99% of the other teams pound it inside to Chism to work on Patterson, knowing he will be leery of getting #5, and get an easy 2, or foul Patterson out. Stevenson was already fouled out, and we could have OWNED the inside for the rest of the game.

Chism isn't the only guilty party. Woolridge never met a 3 he didn't like. We are long, lean, and athletic. Why in the hell are we not driving and attacking the basket?

I'm not sure what our offensive sets try to accomplish, either. We seem to pass the ball around the perimeter until the shot clock gets below 10, then rush a shot, or jack a 3 immediately. Some of you with more basketball knowledge, please explain what the flex offense is supposed to get us.

The "Flex" has been around since the 1970's and is a patterned offense featuring passing, screening, ball-reversal, options and counters. This offense is most effective against man-to-man defenses. Most scoring opportunities come off the "flex cut" inside, or a jump-shot from the elbows. Still you can run various options, counters, post plays, etc. Size mis-matches often occur due to the screening and defensive switching.

The thing is, most SEC teams run zone defense.

Dear Bruce,

Please never start JP Prince again. Also please never put JP Prince into another game again. He is the worst D1 basketball player of all time.

Thanks,
Vol Mania 21

But we don't screen or utilize screens worth a crap in it and nobody moves hard in theat offense. We go through the motions lazily.

if i played TN i'd zone us. we are horrible offensively, and their defense. I'd tell my team that w/ our game plan it'll be like playing a special olympic team. career highs for everyone

Its pretty simple to defend us when we are usually playing 2 on 5....

Teams are leaning on zone more because they know we can't hit the outside shots consistantly.

I know that, my post was in response to the guy who said most SEC teams play zone. I was asking if that was the case or if they only do it mainly against us because they know we can't shoot.

It is what it is. We need scorers and have none. Going to be a long year.
