Thats a lot of offense we lost.

I think some people underestimated the loss of Lofton and Smith, not to mention Duke Crews and Ramar Smith being dismissed in the offseason. I even said, "It'll be a down year, 20-23 wins". I think we might be a little below that range.

You had to figure it would hurt some. But the mental lapses and lack of effort are puzzling.

nope D2, which prince would prolly still suck at. D2 is mostly D1 transfers

The US military is littered with D1 talent and I'm not talking about the Academies....just guys who had no other choice but to join up.....Prince wouldn't make the cut of Base teams I have witnessed.

The "Flex" has been around since the 1970's and is a patterned offense featuring passing, screening, ball-reversal, options and counters. This offense is most effective against man-to-man defenses. Most scoring opportunities come off the "flex cut" inside, or a jump-shot from the elbows. Still you can run various options, counters, post plays, etc. Size mis-matches often occur due to the screening and defensive switching.

Thanks Carter. How many "flex cuts" have we seen? Does a half-assed alley oop attempt that equals a turnover qualify?

How many jumpshots? I don't consider launching a 3 a jumpshot, it's more desperation.

Wasn't Tyler rumored to have worked on his jumper to get ready for the NBA? Has anybody seen improvement?

The only improvement I see from last year is Chism from the FT line.

Dear Bruce,

Please never start JP Prince again. Also please never put JP Prince into another game again. He is the worst D1 basketball player of all time.

Thanks,
Vol Mania 21
Also.... Please bench Chism. He is garbage. he is the reason for at least three of our losses and he maskes poor choices and did I mention he is LAZY!!!!!!!

The thing is, most SEC teams run zone defense.

No they don't, even though we see more of it because of the problems we have had against it. I have not seen all of them this year, but every team in the league is traditionally primarily man-to-man.

We have a different offense against zones. It appears to be based primarily on standing around, then hoisting threes.

For which, we can't shoot this year, something BP and the guys need to understand.

don't forget tyler will flash to the elbow 30% of the time, which is the only way you beat the zone other than hit the 3 which we can't do

This team is undisciplined, not just in shot selection shooting 3's in most aspects of the game. It makes the team look poorly coached, and Bruce must hate that aspect of it.

Boo this post. JP is a good defender and makes things happen on the offensive end with by being all over the place. He had some good offensive rebounds last night but I'd like to see him use his athleticism and drive to the basket more. Most of the night, he was on the wrong side of the floor if he likes to favor his left hand.

do what. He made Matt Bouldin look like the next coming of Adam Morrison. His offensive prowess is also the reason that a man against us turns into a zone when he's ballside. He'll never again get to blow by someone because he'll never be guarded outside 6 feet.

JP's size is an advantage in offensive rebounding. He makes good hustle plays and is one of our best defenders. I'm not saying that he is a lockdown defender but he should certainly see the floor on a regular basis. I can't understand his inability to develop a mid-range jumper but when he has the mindset to attack he can be very effective. BP needs to do a better job of coaching guys like JP and Scotty Hopson to be more aggressive and make things happen with their athleticism. With his decent ballhandling ability, he should be able to drive in and dish it off once he draws the defenders.

he is a very good offensive rebounder and would be good on the press. Other than that, he doesn't hustle in the least and is an awful defender.

JP is the quintessential hot dog. Until that is coached out of him, he's going to be generally useless.

his size is an advantage on offensive rebounding i'll give u that. now u said he hustles and is a lockdown defender, now that is laughable. idk if you know what defense looks like but it's poster child of what not to do is JP. he is extremely lazy, gets beat on back doors more than anyone else. he won't reb defensively bc he is running out so he can go dunk. his ball handling skills are atrocious

In the above post I specifically said that he is not a lockdown defender. However, he is one of our best defenders and that is why I took exception to the previous post that said he shouldn't see the floor again. That is a testament to how bad our defense is. JPs blend of length and athleticism makes him effective at defending guards and he is good at getting in passing lanes. For some reason, we are bad at switching on pick and rolls and show poor defensive intelligence. Prince's ball handling skills are not atrocious for a SF or a wing. He should never play the point if we can avoid it. I have personally witnessed multiple games where Prince's hustle paid dividends for UT, but like the rest of the team, he is inconsistent.

Also, your post about him being the worst D1 player is either a gross exaggeration or complete garbage.
