Some of you act like Bruce is the best and only coach in America. While it cant be argued that he accomplished great things here, it wasn't always sunshine and roses. I seem to recall many people wanting him fired in his last 2 or 3 years. Many people were very frustrated with BP and his system. But no one seems to remember that. All anyone seems to remember is a number 1 ranking and an elite 8 appearance.

His last year was a struggle, but he and the team had the controversy weighing on them, thanks to Bruce. But, they still made the tourney.

The ones who wanted Pearl fired are the same ones who have been pumping sunshine for Martin.

While not a basketball expert, I was never that impressed with CBP's coaching. He was a great promoter of the University and certainly brought attention to the bball program. His teams seemed to suffer from some of the same failings as the current team. Too much reliance on the 3 ball, got us to the tourney but always had the feeling that he was being out coached by the other coaches and never had the prowess to take us all the way. Too much helter skelter playground stuff. Current situation is certainly much worse though. Yes, the thought of Bruce and Butch in the same athletic department makes me giddy, but as has been pointed out, there are a lot of hills to climb to get him back. What a travesty to have to see him on the sidelines in houndstooth, Bulldawg red or Memphis Tiger blue. Yuck! We shall see. So I guess I'm ambivalent.

You weren't impressed with beating #1 ranked teams, being ranked #1 ourselves, going to the NCAA every year and the sweet sixteen 50% of the time, two #2 seeds in the tourney, winning the preseason NIT against highly ranked teams. Which part are you not impressed with? I am not flaming you, just curious.

I'm with you. I really don't understand those who were not impressed with BP. Love him or hate him, his accomplishments at UT are unquestionable.

Go get buzz williams! I think you can if you wish. Go get him now! Great coach and name that will get attention of everyone. He can recruit and coach and with no pearl baggage. We could all be happy.

Good article.

Can't we just get Cheek fired by sending his booger eating footage to every news outlet. The embarrassment would be well worth it if it caused us to dump him.

On a side note. This upcoming game vs. Georgia reminds me of our football game vs. Mizzou in 2012. I wanted us to win, badly - but I knew a loss sealed Dooley's fate, and would begin our resurgence under someone new.

I don't want us to lose to Georgia at home. But I also won't be that upset. I'm fully off the CCM train.

Worth the phone call I think and it would show we are serious about b ball. Better to live in Tenn than WIS for a southerner to begin with.

That's his base salary. Google Buzz Williams salary and you'll find a few articles on it. He has an agreement with some outside corporation or something that pays him another $1 million a year, it's probably a booster or something. He made a little over $2.8 million last year.
