My bad last new contract was 2.5 mil but he is more than twice the coach of our present guy..........heck, even I may be that

Hi Mr. Williams this is Dave Hart, AD at Tennessee. I know you made almost $3 million last year, but how does coming to a lesser program and a paycut of $1 million sound to you?

Just make the call. But, be willing to give him 2.2 to 2.5. He may be happier and the cost of living is lower and it is not as darn cold. He might take a little less but not 1 million. No state income tax as well so you start closing the gap and we did just get the NIKE deal. It would be a way to get the mojo going for everyone including the BP supporters.

Paying the joke of a coach we have now 1.3 is plain silly.

So a coach is gonna take a pay cut for a worse job? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Couple things...

1. How do you know he doesn't like the cold, has he ever stated he hates Wisconsin?

2. You think Hart is willing to pay more for a football coach than a basketball coach? I don't.

3. I would guess his buyout is pretty large, another drawback considering the high scary he would require.

4. He has been in trouble with the NCAA about recruiting violations and had to fire a long time assistant.

How differently would we view cuonzo if they'd made the tourney his first year when he had the same record as bruce did the year before but a better conference record than bruce did, but Bruce's team got in.

Meh. I've thought about that too but not sure it would matter. Comparing the records of Cuonzo's best year vs Bruce's worst year isn't fair IMO.

Pearl also made the tourney as a 21-13 team with a 10-6 conference record but cuonzo didn't with a 20-13 record and 11-7 conference. Maybe the NCAA committee is the problem.

He's got the facilities and the support to do it. We do not have to be KY and decide we can only pay the basketball coach.

If Hart doesn't want to bring in a $3.5M guy then...

This. Not only does Martin lose the big games, he loses games we should blow out. Bruce won the big games and the games we should blow out. Bruce made most of the basketball fans actually care. If Cheek can't handle it, then fire the man. We can find another man who will approve of it.

Then fire him, because if he's only gonna spend $2.5m on the fball coach I highly doubt he's gonna spend $3.5m on the bball coach.

Pearl had bad losses too. I'm not convinced Cuonzo is the guy. But I think the arguments against him are poor. The biggest knock against him in my eyes is the lack of big time wins. Pearl teams had the texas win, the Kansas win, the Pitt win. He had big wins to cover up his bad losses. Just saying cuonzo sucks is repetitive and old. At least come with some support.

Every coach is going to lose an occasional head scratcher. It happens. However, losing games to terrible opponents is one of the few things he Cuonzo does with regularity.

Ok...do any of you think that Slive will weigh in on this hire.....I have a feeling he will, even if Cheek, Hart and the Board are for it.

Bruce won at a higher clip with a better RPI. Cuonzo also actively costs his teams games. I can't think of a time where I sat down and said our boys played their butts off and pearl lost us this game.
