I would be willing to be any amount of money that Bruce would be willing to return to U.T. and that the greater percentage of the fans would like for him to return to U.T. BUT someone who is a decision maker along the way, will not allow it to happen.

We will likely hire another Buzz Peterson to replace Martin while Bruce goes to Clemson, Alabama or B.C. and is in the top 5 every single year.

I don't see this ending well!!!!

This is excellent. Jimmy Cheek is good at every part of his job but athletics. Dave Hart needs to do everything possible to bring back Bruce regardless of Cheek. Simply put, the thought of Bruce coaching at a rival school is too much to stomach. Anything less than winning a game in the Tournament and Martin should be shown the door.

I'm not one to believe a Chancellor's job should depend on athletics, but in this case, someone with more power than Cheek needs to tell him to get on board or update his resume. My reasoning is Pearl andButch together would give the University so much good publicity year around they would pay for themselves easily. Then once they started winning it would be something few universities could match. It's not just about wins, but putting UT back on the map.

If Cheeks gives Hart the green light, or if we hear that Cheek is stepping down, I think the chances greatly increase.

There's 2 sides to the Cheek issue...1. Cheek doesn't want Pearl here. It goes without needing a detailed explanation, but we all know he doesn't. 2. Pearl doesn't wanna work for Cheek. There's still a lot of trust issues and ill-will between the two.

It's important to a HC to be able to trust his AD, and more importantly president. According to that article Hamilton wanted to keep Pearl but Cheek basically said fire him or I'll fire him and you. At the end of the day Hart could tell Pearl everything he wants to hear, but as long as Cheek is Hart's boss I see an issue.

The worse thing that I can think of after reading this is Tennessee playing Bama next season in TBA with Pearl coaching the red team, Martin still coaching the Vols. A Pearl vs Martin matchup is a bad scenario for the Vols!

I don't know why the boosters can't just oust Cheek, considering he's been such a pain in the ass. He's just a figurehead who has been an obstacle for UT athletics since day one.

Get rid of him.

Clay Travis made a good point on 104.5 about this. How many Jimmy Cheeks are there? Empty suits with academic credentials and big egos are a dime a dozen.

On the other hand, how many great proven basketball coaches are out there, who are also available, that can bring in millions of dollars for UT? Pretty much one: Bruce Pearl.

If we get a new coach we will go out and get a mid major coach we are TENNESSE, and hope for the best when we got PEARL look where he was at we it the jackpot.

It would be a disaster on so many levels. Alabama fans would take over TBA for that game, like they did Neyland when Saban crushed Fulmer.

I could foresee Cheek getting his walking papers before this is over if he continues that stance. He was wrong three years ago to not keep Pearl, and if Martin is fired, he will be even more wrong not to immediately rehire Pearl.

Clay Travis gets it. Those academic types are easy to find. Cheek should be a yes man to the big boosters when it comes to athletics. Before Cheek the UTAD used to be one of the most profitable in the NCAA, and they donated millions back to the University. Cheek needs to get on board or be shown the door.

Yes, the red team fans would love it, and Pearl would take Martin to school with his coaching.

Those of us who have been around long enough know how this is going to end. If Tennessee doesn't get Pearl (and though we all want it, we know it's not happening) then Tennessee basketball is dead. We will be right back to the Buzz days and spend 100 years in mediocrity. What Pearl did here has never been done before and I'm apologize that I don't have the faith that some other hire could bring that level of success. It's not only about hiring a good coach. It's about that good coach being a good fit at the University of Tennessee. Bruce Pearl was not a good fit, he was a perfect fit. I can't see that being replaced. If Pearl aint coming back, might as well keep Martin cause Tennessee basketball is dead.
