Bruce Pearl apologizes for off-color joke

It was a joke, not thought out before he said it. If we didn't live in such a PC time this isn't even mentioned, move on.

Our society is so messed up. Basically the moral relativists among us can justify doing anything simply because it feels good yet they are the same people go nuts when somebody makes a harmless joke. Pathetic...

(yes, I realize I typed in generalities)

It was a very innocuous reference to the cultural disparities in this country, yet some yahoo:crazy: at WBIR took it upon himself to make much ado about nothing. To hell with WBIR for not supporting UT athletics. :furious3:

Seriously. The guy made a joke and it was decent. He wasn't pointing at anyone. Trying to heap Pearl into a pile with the bigots is stupid.

Wow, how was I piling on Pearl or calling him a bigot? He shouldn't have told the joke, but it's not a big deal. Geez.

I was really talking to the article as much as you. I didn't see his comment as out of line the way you did.

Bruce is best at rallying people to the program. Part of that is that he is brash and clever. I don't want that lost.

I thought it was funny. I live close to Pulaski, which was where the KKK was founded and there are people around here that still participate in things like that.

In our current environment, it was a stupid thing to do. He should have know a big deal would be made out of his comments, especially with TV present. One of the worst mistakes Pear has made since his "true love" article in the paper. At least he did recognize the problem and make an effort to minimize the damage.

Much less offensive than some of the things the POTUS has been involved with. It was a joke people...

I agree with you. It wasn't way out of line, but it probably shouldn't have been said. I think because I went to a high school with people that "wore hoods" or whose parents did, I'm a bit more sensitive to this than others.

Yeah, cuz everybody knows that the bustling metropolitan area of Grainger county isn't racist!

I thought the joke was hilarious. Anybody offended by it is taking themselves too seriously or just looking for something to complain about.

I don't know if I'd want to play ball for BP but I'd love to be drinking buddies with him! Having a sense of humor about things helps us move past racism.

Why is it only the defenders of the 'hood wearers' are piping up and nobody from the 'hood' is offended by this?

Is it not equally offensive on both sides? If we're going to be hypersensitive, we might as well call the Justice Brothers, Sharpton and Jackson and see if they see offense in what Pearl said...

Oldblood, I am not aiming this at you but I honestly couldn't care less about anybody's opinion if they are offended by this joke.

We all know that parts of TN are extremely racist and this joke shouldn't offend anybody except the racists.

Anybody in an outrage about this comment might be revealing some true colors.

Pearl didn't say anything disparaging about the hood. Most people from the "hood" realize it and aren't sensitive about it. They either wear it as a badge of honor or use it as motivation to improve their lives.

Pearl wasn't trying to hurt any feelings or offend anyone.
If people are being honest, Pearl's comments were spot on and detail the dichotomy of the South.

It was just a joke. The question is will it affect his recruiting from know on. I am hoping not. We will see what people think
