Bruce Pearl: Auburn coach for life

Wasn't the cookout. It was his lying. The cookout was small taters. Secondary if I'm not mistaken.
I think a lot of you guys have forgotten that Pearl had the same type of violation while at Milwaukee. I understand if you are caught multiple times with the same type of violation then it’s no longer viewed as a minor offense which was why many said was the reason he was trying to cover up something that seemed so minor.

Anyway, best of luck to him when not playing us. We all wish he would have followed the rules and stayed here but that ship has sailed. Move on or continue and look foolish.

Barnes didn't "do everything he could" to get it. He talked to them. And if you are so clueless about college basketball that you blame him for talking to the premier school in the sport, you have no business discussing it.

He sought them out (not vice versa) - interviewed - was offered the job - and declined since they wouldn’t pay his buyout. I know that much. And the sad thing is TN admin didn’t even know that UCLA had no intention to pay the buyout.

But he loves UT all right. What’s he done since then at UT?

But you are far too high brow and too knowledgeable to be discussing such things with the likes of us less fortunate, uneducated, peasants on a fan site. Ok.

Pearl is the type of guy to throw his own people under the bus to get himself out of trouble.

He did it to his own assistants, the parents that attended the Barbecue, and his own boss.

Pearl deserves all the blame for screwing up. The only reason why he was “sorry” in the first place is because he got caught.

We don’t owe him nothing nor should we care what he does.

I first met Pearl when he was just hired. We were at an event in Vestavia Alabama with Coach Pat Summitt. Pat’s autograph line was so long and Pearl had about 5 people. He looked at me and said, “I’ve got a lot of work to do don’t I?” We both laughed and I thought he’d end up like the rest of the mediocre Tennessee basketball coaches. I was surprised, Pearl is a really good coach.

From what I heard from people close to the situation, Pearl was blind sided and caught off guard when the university already knew about it and could’ve let him know early so he didn’t feel like he needed to lie. Oh well…Pearl at Auburn winning, Lane at Ole Miss beating us and making us look like chumps….it’s never ending at Tennessee it seems. Maybe things are changing for the better who knows.

Barnes just hadn’t been caught. If you think he is clean then you are a fool. It’s a dirty business - and has been for decades.

Cookout wasn’t illegal. Having recruits at the bbq was a secondary violation which should have been reported and there would have been no penalty. But he got turned in by OSU.

Then he lied about it. And he got hammered. He paid his price.

But I guess since he did nothing to you personally he deserves your hate. Lol. Rich.

But you love Barnes - the guy who loved TN so much he did everything he could to get the UCLA job. A job that he would have taken but didn’t only because UCLA would not pay his buyout at TN. That’s awesome. So Pearl’s a liar and Barnes is greedy (all about the $$$)
Again, give us a call when Barnes gets a 3 year show cause and an assistant in jail for major recruiting violations that I’m sure the head coach knew about. When Barnes gets those, we can discuss. I like Bruce but they aren’t in the same zip code when it comes to shady dealings. Now if you want to come Bruce and Calipari, I’ll buy that one.

Compare Bruce and Calipari….

Auburn locking Bruce up early.
Rumors here around Southern Indiana and Kentucky is Louisville going to make a run at a MAJOR name that is currently coaching...could have been Pearl.

Bruce is Tennessee’s guy. The fans still love him (some of you will disagree, know that you’re in the minority). The UT admin was stupid for letting him go and not fighting for him. CRB is twice the man, but 75% of the coach that Bruce is.
No. Pearl is Barn for life now. UT fans don’t decide that. His employment at Auburn does.

If he wanted out as bad you insinuate, he would've taken anything that was offered.

This is so ridiculous if you want to be a Pearl fan then go be one nobody is stopping you…why does this fanbase have to keep living in the past over something we have no control over? Who cares what the reasons are the point is he got caught and was given a show cause. The university has moved on and even Pearl has moved on no need to continue discussing this…

Overreact much? Who said anything about being a Pearl fan blah blah blah…. I enjoyed the Pearl years and hate what his mistake did to our program. And I love Barnes. Perhaps you should know who you’re talking to before throwing a childish temper tantrum and looking foolish.

You may be correct however the roster he inherited from Buzz was weak to say it nicely.

The roster he inherited from Buzz in 2005 included C.J. Watson, Chris Lofton, JaJuan Smith, Major Wingate (R.I.P.), and Dane Bradshaw. Undersized certainly but not exactly devoid of talent. Buzz got some decent talent here, he just was in over his head at a P5 school.

I’m pretty calm despite how you think I reacted about another Bruce Pearl post on a Tennessee basketball board….the horse has been dead

Those guys records at UT pre Bruce speak for themselves. Pearl did great things with them because he is a really good freaking bball coach.

Hell he did great things at UT period. But for Pearl, there is no bball practice facility - let alone the only TN Elite 8. But I guess you think Bruce sucks as a basketball coach. Whatever.

Chill. He’s a former Tennessee coach being discussed on a Tennessee messsge board. And all I was doing was clarifying what happened, not defending anyone. Just walk away. Thx….

G.O.A.T. UT BB coach. Shame UT screwed him over his wife’s bbq.
It had a lot more to do with lying to the administration, who made themselves look like fools trying to stand up for him. The barbecue rule was silly and it doesn’t even apply anymore. Even more reason why what he did was so silly. Try misleading your boss when you’re breaking a rule and see what happens when they find out.

Bruce is possibly a little better recruiter, both legally and illegally - I think Barnes is a very good coach equal to Bruce given the same talent - and a great ambassador for UT, and he does a great job with the kids as mentor and role model. Bruce does a great job with spacing and inbounds plays.
With a couple more Million in his pocket - he will be bringing in more and better recruits. You do the math.

Why clarify? Why do we as a fanbase need to clarify for him that makes absolutely no sense as a Tennessee fan, no you walk away

You’re funny. You click on a Bruce Pearl thread and complain that people are discussing Bruce Pearl….. think about it - if you don’t want to see Pearl posts walk away from the Pearl thread. Kinda common sense buddy….

Bruce is a good bb floor coach imo. He is also personable and charismatic. He cheats at recruiting, but he is pretty good at it and for the everyone cheats crowd then that's not an issue. A case can be made for Saban, Smart and others cheating in recruiting so ...
Auburn is a school that tolerates, supports, and endorses cheating so probably a match made in heaven.
I look for him to continue to be successful at Auburn unfortunately. He has a great team this year, and he had great teams when he was here. People probably don't give him enough credit.

Maybe “good” floor coach is right..,but I wouldn’t say “very good” or “great.” I have gone back and watched some highlights, and it’s crazy how mediocre we were in his flex offense in the half court. Standing around, and someone makes a play. His style is fun though, and he preaches aggressiveness. Everything else is spot on.

I believe Smith will be his highest drafted player, so he better take advantage of this year. Not sure he will have many more chances with a top 3 pick.

If Auburn makes another final four players will flock to him. I hope BHH doesn't figure out who the better coach is.
