Bruce Pearl: Auburn coach for life

Point is you act like Barnes is some saint and he isn’t - he is as greedy as the next guy. And maybe in his more recent years not as dirty but dirty nonetheless.

Having an agent make overtures toward another school is one thing but Barnes was all but gone but for the payment of his buyout. He didn’t stay at UT because they gave him a raise, he stayed because UCLA wasn’t going to pay a buyout. He wasn’t just trying to get a raise by taking to UCLA, he had the job and was leaving had it not been for the buyout.

There is a reason Barnes is rarely seen in TN orange. He tolerates TN and TN fans. He thinks he better than this program.

And I for one think we have the second best bball program in the SEC and not because Barnes. Barnes has done a good job (not great) but Pearl put TN back on the map during his tenure and showed the country how awesome TN bball can be.

When Barnes decides to retire, there will be great interest in the TN job.[/QUOTE
Complete BS regarding your characterization of Barnes. I get frustrated with him too but seems I remember getting Hammered by 30 in the NCAA with Pearl. And Pearl lost his job because he lied multiple times to the administration. The last one was a bump violation that he lied about

The backbone of Pearl's success at Auburn is his ability to recruit the kids from the Metro Atlanta area that don't want to play at/can't get in to Georgia Tech or at Georgia, play at Auburn which is much closer to Atlanta than Knoxville is, from time to time, he sprinkles in a few random stars out of nowhere, he can manipulate the media to tell his story, but he creates an environment where the kids play hard, improve and develope a bit, win close games, will be interesting to see how NIL affects his success on the plains, something else will happen to him eventually, it usually does as Bruce is his own worst enemy

Coach for life just means big buyout. If he starts to suck, they’ll pay it. Same with Kentucky and Calipari.

Hell they paid Gus $20mil.

Pearl might self destruct but he won’t lose enough to get fired anytime soon. He’s recruiting at a high level (no surprise how being at Auburn) and he’s the best floor coach in the league IMO.

I think that’s probably Nate Oats. I haven’t seen Arkansas this year, but Musselman has NBA experience. Pearl has positives, but best floor coach is not one of them IMO.

Pearls teams are outstanding at inbounds plays (offense & defense) in critical situations. Hell, he beat Billy Donavan TWICE with great inbounds plays. He’s very good coming out of timeouts. That’s floor coaching. Oats has been below average this year. Hell, he lost to Ga.

That's not what you said. You said he hates it here. If he truly hates it, he would've taken that job offer.

It's pretty clear that Barnes would have dropped us like a two dollar hooker if UCLA didn't get cold feet.

“When you get down to a situation like that, it has to make sense from a financial standpoint,” Barnes said at a news conference Tuesday. “It does have to. The bottom line is we just really couldn’t work it out with the buyout.”

When asked what would have happened if the Bruins had covered his buyout, Barnes said: “I think I would have been the coach at UCLA.”

Because it's ****ing UCLA. The pinnacle of jobs. If he hates it in Knoxville so bad he would take any job that was offered. I guarantee if UCLA ever wanted the sleeze Pearl, he'd go too, but there's no way they'd want that mess.

Apparently they were smarter than us and realized he just wasn't worth the money. As far as him taking any job, that's crazy. He's waiting to get paid more. Who would be stupid enough to leave a $5,000,000 a year job with fans who don't care if he ever wins anything. o_O

Wasn't the cookout. It was his lying. The cookout was small taters. Secondary if I'm not mistaken.
The cookout is what precipitated the lie because it was the second time he'd been caught breaking that same rule, which would have bumped it from a secondary to a major violation, or at least, punished as one. This is why he felt compelled to lie about it.

And once you tell a lie, it necessitates another lie, and another, and another. Then you add in the attempt to convince the player and his family to lie (the same family that allegedly provided the photo to the NCAA, no less), the bump violation he committed afterwards, and the other violation during the night of the UK game, and you just have an atmosphere of distrust and non-compliance.

I never said he hated it here. I said he thought he was better than TN and TN fans. And wanted to get out of here. However his desire for money outweighed that.

I’d take whatever a Pearl Probation Era would’ve looked like over the Martin/Donnie Tyndall Eras. Literally the only thing I remember from either of those two coaches is we scored, like, 38 points (or something like that) against Georgetown

Whatever helps your pathetic approach sleep at night.
So you know, I sleep quite well. Go ahead, keep your blind loyalty to a multi-millionaire who would turn us out in a second if he could find a program who thought he was worth the money. As a wise man once said, there is indeed a sucker born every minute.

Yeah, I’m sure Bruce Pearl is such a loyal guy.

I remember when he flirted with the Memphis job but you Pearl nuthuggers won’t mention that.

Bruce is a great coach, but that’s doesn’t mean Tennessee can’t or won’t have a better program year over year. Just means those AU games will be hotly contested for years to come.

You miss the point. None of them are loyal. Tell us something new.

So you mean Pearl has his faults after all?

I was beginning to think he was the best thing that happened to us despite ******* us over.

I don't know that I would ever want Pearl back, but I do think he's a better coach than Barnes. In case your memory is failing you, Barnes would have tricked us out for UCLA in a second if they thought he was worth the money.

Inbounds plays are about 5% of floor coaching. It’s not difficult.

Hah! Deflect because you can't face the reality that, ultimately, UCLA wasn't going to overpay Barnes for mediocrity. I like your style. o_O

UCLA was eager to pay Barnes handsomely for mediocrity, but not to overpay him for mediocrity?
