Bruce Pearl Rumor

Don't disagree, but I just don't see how you can keep both of them after Howard cut his coach's balls off like that. And it's never the player that gets the boot in these situations, is it?
don't disagree with one having to leave. I'm just saying that Van Gundy should be the one to stay. Howard is a physical and athletic monster, but his basketball skill sucks.

Any chance Van Gundy had of being the one standing probably got ruined by what Shaquille O'Neal said about him puckering in the playoffs -- immediately prior, of course, to what's going to be spun by a lot of people as Orlando puckering up in the playoffs. Plus Orlando has to sell tickets. I'm not saying it's right, but Van Gundy's the one who's going to be out.

But you don't really think Van Gundy's more valuable to the franchise than Howard, do you?

this rumor is hilarious. if they hire him well they're idiots

Maybe they are looking for a new mascot? I can see him painted blue and running out of the crowd at half-time, to do dunks off of trampoline's and scream and such. :dance2:

But on a serious level, I don't see why and or how this could ever be a good fit, for either party.

I wouldn't go that far....it'd be a great fit for Pearl...a $5mil/year deal would be a no-brainer for him...he could always return to the college game in 3 years after he's fired.

Oh yeah, your absolutely correct from that standpoint. I was looking at things from more of a tangible view, meaning:

1) Orlando gets nothing out of Pearl and releases him in a few years.

2) Pearl has no success at Orlando and is released in a few years.

I guess every coach has the itch to try the NBA. I could be wrong though. The NBA is less about X's and O's, and is more of a players league. (which is why so many GOOD college coachs ultimately fail when they make the jump) Perhaps Bruce would excel in such an environment. :dunno:

I dont know about you all but I love Pearl......but i guess he really doesint have much loyalty and i dont want to have to worry about him running off every time there is a offer thrown his way....he has a great thing here but if he is going to do this crap....get to steppin...

A little harsh based on a rumor on an unknown message board. Has he actually done anything?

Bruce Pearl cant even get set plays in college to work most of the time. Why would an NBA team want him?

He is a great recruiter and motivator, something that is great at the college level but all you need is a smile and a checkbook in the NBA

any team relying, right now, on Howard as an offensive option is going to suck. His offensive game is comparable to Shaq's, but he doesn't have the size / braun to get to the hole like Shaq did. Hence, he has to rely on his touch from 5 feet and in, which is an utter disgrace.

He CANNOT score with his back to the basket. When Perkins and Davis can shut you down one on one in the post, you are not a premier post scorer. At least Shaq could mix in a baby hook every once in a while. Boston isn't even double teaming him when he gets the ball.

no, but a team in need of offense can't rely on Howard. He's not the next great center / power forward, on either end. He's a phenomenal athlete, period.

Does this mean it's time for Hamilton to give Pearl and his staff another unwarranted raise?

I'm sure if this rumor gets legs there will be plenty of threads titled "Give Bruve Pearl a raise!" "Please stay Coach Pearl" and "If Bruce Pearl Leaves, Get Ready for Buzzball pt. 2"

With good ole Mike at the helm, I would not be surprised.

He has done a good job building up UT, but has not had the success to jump to the NBA, watch out for Billy Donovan's name AGAIN!
