Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl said Sunday he is confident that the school may stave off any further penalties after what he characterized as unprecedented action taken by the school and SEC to impose sanctions on him and his staff over recruiting violations that included Pearl misleading investigators.

I think the NCAA will actually appreciate the SEC stepping in and levying such a heavy punishment.

Also the school's action were swift and harsh.

I think the NCAA would like to see more conferences and schools handle things like this so they don't have to get involved as much.

To me, IMO, this is over.

He's not helping his case by telling Andy Katz he doesn't think the gameday suspension will effect the team that badly. If you're going to claim you've been hidestrapped already and shouldn't be penalized further, it probably isn't wise to minimize the effect of your sanctions.
