Bruce Pearls honeymoon is over. Its time to be a real coach. Will that ever happen?

How many games do you guys think we would win in the Big East?
I say this with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek, but the Vols are undefeated against Big East teams this season. Maybe they should play more games against them!

I don't understand why he did great with lesser talent, and now that he has big time prospects he is losing?

I thought that CBP was the one that put the toughness and the "never say die" attitude in his early teams.

I am now beginning to think that that work ethic came from Dane Bradshaw, JuJuan Smith, and Chris Lofton. Those three had some serious heart, which is something that this team completely lacks.

It may still just be the youth, but if they don't buy into Pearl's system and start playing each possession like it's their last, we could continue to see a group of highly athletic yet undisciplined players instead of a "team".

Old teams played with heart. Lofton had heart, J smith, Bradshaw, watson. there is very little heart on this team. tyler smith has some, and wayne is coming on but thats it. Why has JP not showed improvement? maze? Hopson is not living up to the hype. yes i know he is only a freshman. There is no motivation from the sidelines. Im not saying pearl is a bad coach. he has done great thing for the program but it time to win some big games. We shoul at worst have 2 losses with this team. We have talent, soft but we have talent.

because basketball IQ has dropped significantly. here's the thing. you see teams w/ lesser talent beat teams w/ all kinds of talent. why is this? because the guys who have lesser talent are usually students of the game. they know they don't have the ability that the other guys have but they out smart them.

I would humbly suggest that the "heart" as well as the "basketball IQ" of those players mentioned was more evident in their upperclassman years than in their underclassman years. The biggest problem I see is that on the perimeter, there isn't a single player with significant D1 experience, and when you throw rookies out there against talented Jr.s and Sr.s who know how to play the game, they are going to take their lumps.

That isn't an excuse, but it is an accurate observation. A few players can step right in and adjust to college ball, but most freshmen have to develop, and ours aren't on that level yet.

Prince doesn't have significant expereince? my beef is def not w/ the younger guys. i have made many posts about the learning curve for frsh when making the jump from hs to college.

if our post players who have experience have good basketball IQ then why don't one of them flash to the elbow during a 2-3 zone? unless tyler smith is out there this is not done. and no this isn't something that an upperclassman player knows how to do. you learn this in jr. pro and jr. high at the latest. they don't use their heads plain and simple. again i'm talking about the upperclassman, not the young guys

I think Smith and Chism are two of the headiest players we've got. The problem is that they do not have the ball in their hands most of the time; the guards do.

I believe we both agree that Prince's play has been disappointing.

I think Chism is one of the dumbest basketball players ever in the SEC.

Chism? if that's the case then we are in trouble. he obviously doesn't know what a bad shot is. takes the worst 3's in the world

The random three is not my favorite aspect of Chism's game.

The guy knows how to score, he knows how to rebound, he can defend, he knows how to stay out of foul trouble, and even with the inexplicable long-balls he's shooting almost 50% from the floor. He knows how to play the game.

I have witnessed very little of any of these aspects, especially at crunch time.

He knows how to stay out of foul trouble? Really? Why doesn't he do it more often then?

He is less than a rebound short of averaging a double double, and some of his best games have been against Kansas, Gonzaga, Kentucky, and Marquette. That is production when it matters.

He has fouled out twice, but he is doing a much better job of keeping himself on the floor during the last month or so. His minutes have only been limited once, at Georgia, over that span.

I'm still sticking by my statement that he knows how to play, and that as a junior, his experience is a large reason for that.

He has done a better job. But you can't over look the fact that he'll usually manage to pull off 3 fouls in a matter of 1 minute once a month or so. But now Brian Williams has taken that role.

Bruce Pearl got schooled today, Pearl did everything that Cal wanted him to do, slow down the game play D and keep it out of the paint. Memphis had no answer for CHism and he was on the bench with 5 min to go, how in the hell does that happen? HOw in the world do you let Anderson dribble all the way up the court and not even get a hand in his face and shoot a wide open three. Bruce Pearl I think you are the one that needs to step up your game, its put up or shut up from here on out. Do something Bruce if your so great do something. Whats everyone going to say now, dont give me its only one loss BS cause thats what it is.

what he has now is a leaderless team. Chism is a role player that is newly accustomed to being the man. This team has too many thugs. They need to quit whining, accept a questionable call here and there, and play hard. The talent is there, the desire is not.

Thugs? You're kidding, right?

Tatum, Maze, Hopson, and to a lesser extent Woolridge need to get better, and quickly, otherwise this team is NIT-bound.
