Bryce Brown battling for starting RB position

He was never going to get a shot behind Kiffin's prized recruits Brown and Oku. He outperformed both of those two in practices and scrimmages and many players told him he should've been the #2 back behind Hardesty. To say the talent level isn't close is not accurate. Kiffin never gave him a fair shake because he wasn't one of his recruiting trophies being held up for everyone to see.

That's all speculative and the main guy publicly claiming Poole was better in practice was Daniel Lincoln. Bare minimum Brown provides us with a solid backup for the 2010 season, something we didn't have. You probably also get to see Poole rest more, not have to play hurt, and ultimately have a better season.

Poole's 2010 stats aren't speculative. Kiffin and Poole weren't on good terms according to Poole. Anyway my main point was to say there isn't this huge talent gap between Brown & Poole as previous poster stated. I agree that it would have been nice to have both Brown & Poole regardless of which one started. But Brown didn't want to be here and I think I remember had a concussion issue as well. We'll have to see how a motivated Brown does this year to make a fair judgement.

Many great RB's fell short of 1000 yards in the SEC. TP tied for most 100 yard games and fell short of 100 by 1 yard in another. All while running behind a line comprised of mostly 1st year starters and freshmen. OTOH BB had concussions and a hip problem immediately upon arrival. Ill take TP thank you very much.

I wish he was still here also. He would have easily started over Poole last year.Their talent level isn't close.Exactly what Kiffin was thinking and I don't wanna give him credit for anything But Brown would have been the better RB. Poole doesn't read blocks well or hit his holes with a burst. Exactly why Neal or Lane could be starting by midyear. JMO

Poole has demonstrated himself to be more than an SEC worthy RB. His performance last year statistically simply doesn't lie. You don't have those stats vs the SEC without possessing very good talent.

I keep wondering when the stupidity will stop... and it never does.

As a totally separate issue, I was never impressed by BB. He ran straight up... and talk about not being able to find a hole or set up a block. He was horrible. He repeatedly ran up blockers' backs when a simple cut would have yielded positive yardage. Kiffin early in the season practically handed him the job on a silver platter and he couldn't deliver when it mattered.

He has the raw speed and athleticism to become a good back. But I am not surprised that another "nobody" is challenging him.

Really doesn't sound like it coming from Snyder.

Snyder also said that Maurice Mack and Darren Sproles were battling for the starting spot either before Sproles junior or senior season.

Snyder is proficient at psychologically getting the best from his players. If Brown is not starting come September, I will be shocked.

i didnt know poole's stats were that good last yr 1000 yds on 200 carries and 11 TD's is damn good and like already said your line wasnt too good

we havent had a 1000 yd rusher in so long that will change by this yr or the next tho

^ Gets it.

What he did as a freshman behind that OL is pretty dang good.

It was his heart, he didn't have any for the game. Anyone who watched him could see he didn't give it his all. He might have some talent, but he has no drive. I want young men that want to play good for the team, not for individual accolades.

Yeah, ok.

The blind hate that Tennessee fans have for anything related to the 2009 season shields their eyes from that bit of information.

Not really. I could really care less about Brown's future success or failure. His yards at UT largely came against weak opponents or at times when the game was no longer in question. When the game was in question, Hardesty was in the game.

And when UT was winning 4 games in a row to get bowl eligible last year, the staff decided to keep the ball in the hands of a true freshman QB rather than rely on Poole or any of the other backs.

Poole like Hardesty in the year prior was the only guy UT had who came close to being effective in meaningful carries. He got pretty worn down and played with an injury during the middle part of the season.

I'm not exactly sure what you are claiming though. Poole had 101, 117, 99, and 59 in those last 4 games. His worst games were when they tried to put the ball in Simms' hands. He did fine when Bray was QB. I am sure he would be happy averaging 94 ypg while Bray rips opponents through the air.

Just found some interesting stats. Brown carried the ball 101 times for 450 yds. In spite of his reputed speed, quickness, and talent advantages over Poole he only had two runs over 20 yds. This year Poole had 204 carries and 1034 yards. He had 14 runs of over 20 yds.

If you are curious, Hardesty had 10 in the previous year.
