Bryce Brown battling for starting RB position

Okay, that makes sense. I've been in this debate several times, but I think this is the first time I've heard a lot about the school the coach is leaving. I understand your argument, but I don't think it would be a huge issue. Coaches generally leave for better jobs/teams. I don't think you would generally see a lot of problems with that.

Not always better teams. I imagine that if it had been possible, Roy Williams would have taken Wayne Simien with him to UNC. IMO, Huggins would have taken Jacob Pullen with him to WVU, as well. Sampson would have at least tried to take Blake Griffin with him to IU (would have been tougher since Griffin is an Oklahoma native).

Those are just a few examples I can think of off the top of my head.

You're not wrong, but I just don't really see that being a huge issue. If the players want to leave, I would think they should be able to.

Hubert sounds a bit like a Travis Stephens was for us. At least the heart, hunger and size part. Hope he wins the starting role.

Agreed. There is little to nothing positive that can come out of trying to force someone to stay who flat out wants to leave in that situation.

That is beyond stupid, the contract is with the university not the coach.

Which is crap, because the university president isn't the one recruiting him, offering him a scholarship, or trying to help him get to the NFL.

If you wanna show me where Bryce Brown acted out, went to the media, or displayed ANY douchebaggery, I'll gladly wait.

What is going to the media saying you're considering a lawsuit then? A rule is rule and if the kid and his dad wanted Dooley to do it they should've manned up and come to him and acted nice about it. Texting that you want your release and not showing up without explanation for spring practice are both forms of douchebaggery IMO. The third reason Dooley gave about not granting his release was being professional about it. Do you need more examples? A link since your memory is short.

Bryce Brown Texts His Tennessee Exit

That story came from a Jimmy Hyams report that later he got enraged about, even calling Dooley a liar on air.

No, only his dad did. Bryce shouldn't have been punished because he happens to be the son of an idiot.

So Bryce couldn't have done anything different? His dad was definitely part of the problem and I lumped him in my comments too. But Bryce is an adult. His dad isn't the one that didn't show up for practice with no explanation while still enrolled in school. Bryce is the one that sent the text saying he wanted a release instead of just meeting with CDD in person. Our definitions of douchebaggery differ I suppose.

Yes, a grown man of 42 years is always justified in stooping to the level of a 19 year old freshman.

Well if he called him a liar on the air then he must be right.

Serious question ...do you think Dooley is a liar?

I think Jimmy got mixed up and ran with a story he though his listeners would like to hear. He had incomplete facts and tried to "scoop" the story, then got burned and it made him mad. Remember him saying there would definitely be no black jerseys for the Halloween game?

Interesting that he's the one reporting the text thing which later he debunked and it's his debunking that's BS, not the initial story.

but only for 1 year

The system isn't perfect, when a coach over signs and dosn't renew a scholorship the kid should be free and clear to go wherever they want without sitting a year. However just because a caoch leaves kids shouldn't be able to up and go without penalty. It's the real real world, should we do away with non-competes also????

Both sides could've handled it better.

Did Dooley ever deny the text thing though?

:shakehead:
There's an open competition because "open competition" makes the #1 play just that little bit harder. Bryce is the #1. If you want to get him to work slightly harder, you say he isn't the official #1 yet.

I was being sarcastic chief.

So it's fair to kick them out, but not for them to leave on their own?

i do agree that he wasn't worth a #1 rivals ranking, but i do think he is a solid back. has great size, quickness, and with a good position coach, he he will do fine. And not to many freshman running backs were going to start over hardesty, but brown showed in his few snaps that he would solid IMO. im not going to lie, i would love to still see him in the backfield at UT but whats done is done. best of luck to him.

I wish he was still here also. He would have easily started over Poole last year.Their talent level isn't close.Exactly what Kiffin was thinking and I don't wanna give him credit for anything But Brown would have been the better RB. Poole doesn't read blocks well or hit his holes with a burst. Exactly why Neal or Lane could be starting by midyear. JMO

Poole rushed for over 1000yds with a 5.1 average and 12TDs. Had 22 receptions for 171 and a TD. Six 100 yard rush games- 3 of which were against top rush defenses in the nation behind a crappy O-line. He was never going to get a shot behind Kiffin's prized recruits Brown and Oku. He outperformed both of those two in practices and scrimmages and many players told him he should've been the #2 back behind Hardesty. To say the talent level isn't close is not accurate. Kiffin never gave him a fair shake because he wasn't one of his recruiting trophies being held up for everyone to see.
