Assault can be a verbal statement that causes the victim to fear bodily harm.

Not saying he did or didn't do anything, the next few comments are simply my opinion.

Probably, these charges get dropped, except for vandalism portion.
1. The young lady doesn't remember anything
2. The witnesses admit they never laid eyes on him
3. ONLY heard his voice

Those three "facts" in a court of law, won't hold water. JMO

What does the coach do about the gate being torn off the hinges, I don't know.

He was arrested because the responding officers thought there was a possibility of bodily harm to the girlfriend based on Thompsons temperament at the time and the report from a witness who overheard him say he would slap her.

Thanks for the mature reply. There aren’t many in here. I agree that the charges will be dropped.

However, I would like to point out that 1 of the witnesses did ID him visually and the 2 behind him confirmed with police it was the same incident that witness 1 reported on.

In a court of law (if he were charged for his threat for shooting up the school) I would think the DA eventually would drop it or he would be found not guilty due to lack of hard evidence. However, UT can be a little but more lax if they chose to pursue this and he could certainly face expulsion.

What bothers me the most are the threats about shooting up the school. I don't believe for one minute, he intended to do anything, just speaking out of anger. In today's climate....not sure how that can be glossed over even if it were just tongue and cheek. I'll be curious to hear the details over the coming days, and how the school handles it. In the meantime, we have a ballgame to get ready for! GBO!!!

Rocktopper, in the articles it states that 1 of the witnesses in the back did not hear the gun threat, but only the slap threat. The witness who made a visual ID and the other witness in the back heard both.
