BTO’s Arkansas Postgame Report

Chandler went 0-3 from the free throw line today and shot 2 airballs.

He will get fouled a lot in crunch time and needs to develop ice veins at the stripe when the game is on the line.

Tennessee is dead last in the conference in two point field goal percentage and ranks second in three point field goal percentage in the conference.

Solid momentum headed to Tampa and the conference tournament next Friday.
How much does a half gallon of ice developer cost?

I’m glad we had a game like this now. We had a lot of games like this in the grant era where we would go off like gangbusters only to let up and let other teams get back in. They had to figure out how to deal with it. So an opportunity to continue to get better but the type of game we played in the first half is just another glimpse of where our ceiling is. Encouraging. I think things are still coming together for us and at the right time.

I agree. You don’t get second chances in the NCAA tournament. There’s a long history of teams that learn a tough lesson before the tournament and grow from it. I think this game was a good learning experience without the pain of a loss.

Atmosphere in TBA yesterday was electric. The 2nd half was a LOT less fun than the first, but hey we won and that’s all that matters. 😅

I will say that the free throw issue is concerning to me. That is the type of flaw that will lose you games in March. Hopefully Chandler can identify whatever the mental issue is because we need him to be much, much better.

I’m also just still flabbergasted why our bigs, two of which are 7 feet tall, refuse to dunk it. I remember two very clear instances where Uros and Aidoo could have easily slammed the ball and instead tried to kiss it off the glass and missed. Man…..you all are HUGE dudes. Just yam it down their throat. Why is that so hard?

All I know is I'd have some big boys working the jugs machine for 8hrs strait.Stick Chandler on the free throw line for 8hrs while playing Pantera in the backcrowd while hitting golf balls from the stand at him.Kids got so much potential if he can get out his head.

Barnes coaches them to initiate contact and shoot from the side to get a three point play. It was magic with Grant. That said, Aidoo and BHH have to make some twos before they’ll ever draw that kind of attention. Gotta put it in.

Imo, we cannot play slow. We get alot better looks when we push tempo. Regardless of score, we should push, push, push!

This !

usually the slower tempo is happening with a lead and momentum seems lost

thankfully we've held the lead in most all of these situations but the slow play definitely affects the positive flow of the game and makes the final outcome closer than and more stressful (for the fans)

Agreed. They’re young so they have time to develop into that role, but man in these important games down the stretch, if our 7 footers are within two feet of the basket I want to see them go up strong and posterize someone.

How about that shot BHH took, where he got it right in front of the rim and then made a move basically behind the rim and threw it up. What was that?

Dykes so promo Arkansas it was good to get the win.....
So Tired of the Espn Crew stating that the top 4 of the SEC can make the FF but Tennessee is always treated like the Red Headed Step Child and there is always that Shout Out to Alabama.
I thought this was a better officiated game but todays game had it moments
I never understand how a club like LSU or this year Auburn can be in the dead hair of an investigation or coming off of one can win and be on the list for a SEC Championship. Miss St blew it this week but it was a poorly bias called game in the last 3 minutes. Not during the Overtime.

I heard Dykes say that both teams were FF contenders. BVS?

Can' t Stand Dykes he is pro Arkansas. I will bet he used the Arkansas Word yesterday 5 to 1 more times than Tennessee.
He made more excuses for Arkansas yesterday than was needed.
When they state FF teams in there projection We are an afterthought and lumped in with a group of 4. Alabama gets more pub as a final 4 contender than Tennessee.
Right now we are an Afterthought for most of these Media Sites probably based on our past performances and we could win the SECT, but we would still be a FF afterthought.
It was almost like he was willing the comeback.
I compare his coverage of UT games to Dane Bradshaw. Bradshaw calls a pretty good game and never overtalks UTK or an Opponent. Dykes on the other hand is a moran and really never talks about the Teams potential.

1. That was about what I expected, a sweater, but definitely wasn’t the route I thought we would take in getting there. Came out playing arguably our best half of basketball and had a huge lead, allowed Arkansas to climb back in and found a way to hang on for dear life for the win. I was anticipating a close back and forth game for 40 minutes, definitely wasn’t the case, but turned into a nail bite me late for sure and we found a way to pull out the W.

2. I thought JJJ was huge down the stretch, when Arkansas made a run he his some big shots and made some key defensive plays, he seems to be finding a new gear a little bit of late and that it bug for this teams success…at our best he’s giving us 35+mpg and being aggressive, you know what you’re going to get from him defensively.

3. The defense was really good I thought, we turned it over too much and got out worked on the boards by a wide margin especially in the 2nd half which made it a ball game for sure…we have to take care of the ball, we typically do a good job of it but in games we’ve struggled in it’s typically a common theme. The rebounding is effort, we whipped Auburn of the boards and can do it, Arkansas was desperate the 2nd half and so it’s not a huge shock but disappointing we didn’t match it.

4. A negative we are starting to hear more and more about, our 2pt% is really bad, and really keeping our offense from being really good in all actuality. 11/32 today from 2, 34%, that is REAAALLLY bad…fact is BHH & Aidoo don’t need to be making post moves, Fulky if the matchup is there ok, Plav if he’s got position ok, Aidoo if he’s open on an 17 footer ok, but we are trying to get post looks for guys that is such a lower percentage play…add in the mid range attempts from Chandler, JJJ, Vescovi and Zeigler and it’s just not great basketball…especially considering how well we have been shooting the ball from outside. Yea we may live and die by the 3, but imo that’s clearly our best offense.

5. Time to do a regular season finale reset..23-7(14-4), that’s a better finish than anyone realistically expected, you throw in an expected Memphis W and that’s 24-7…in polls next week we are probably around #10, that’s a great season. However even more importantly, we are playing our best ball at the right time and that’s not something that we have done much heading into March. The win today absolutely locks up a 4 seed as the floor imo, and quite possibly a 3, we should be flirting with a 2 seed in the next update. Our opening SECT should absolutely be a very winnable game and win that and definitely would increase chances of a 2 and again seemingly cement a 3 as the floor. We still have yet to see 40 minutes of the best Tennessee basketball they have to offer, and that is exciting, the hope is that we see it at the right time!!!

It does seem like we are playing better and better as the season goes.

A little better rebounding and a little better free throw shooting and this game doesn't get quite so stressful.

Yall see this? Lord have mercy.

I usually notice her or some others about once a game. I feel like an old perv(almost 40) but damn we got some thick cheerleaders whose uniform leaves just a little bit of their azz peaking out.

Talk about it, then, but ZZ & Vescovi's troubles have absolutely nothing to do with Chandler's free throw woes. I wonder if the coaches have reviewed film of him shooting free throws in high school. Something needs to give, whether his technique needs to be completely broken down and started over, he only is getting progressively worse with each game.

I heard Barnes in a post game interview say it's mental and that he's fine in practice. Had some interesting things to say about his heart racing when it's go time in a game and then he has to calm it down for FT's.

Makes sense when you think about how ZZ and Vescovi are always playing at the same hard and fast pace but look like they are just used to always doing so and their demeanor never really changes. Chandler plays similar but looks like he he also has a jittery energy about him that allows him to go into turbo mode. One moment he looks like he's gliding and the next he he puts on the jets that make him such an elite athlete and prospect.

Dykes is a close friend of Coach Barnes and I think sometimes he goes overboard to try and sound like he isn’t showing favoritism.

First half was a little bit of fools gold. Yes, we were doing everything right but multiple players shooting 6 or 7 there's in a row and nobody missing is statistically improbable and just bombed away on Ark. Heck, wasn't KC 5/5 for three at one point?

Meanwhile, the refs were calling lots of fouls on both teams but we were so far ahead that some of the ticky tack garbage calls on our main guys didn't really seem too important.

We came back down to earth shooting in the second half, had some turnovers, lost mental focus, got in foul trouble and Ark just kept playing their game and got back in it.

It's a good thing that we had built up such a big lead earlier and that we played good enough defense in the final 1:30 to pull out the dub.

Does this Really Matter? Dykes has a job to do as a Commentator and should be a professional in his comments. I have never heard more Arkansas This and Arkansas that.....but it does not matter who the other team we face Dykes always gets to a point and seems to favor in commentary moreso the opposing teams when it comes to UT.....
He seems to go out of his way not to give this Team the sometimes Credit it deserves.

It doesn’t matter what they think as long as we take care of business! GBO!
