Every part of the offense is a mess. When you can't score on what should be fast break/easy points it's a killer. JJJ's blown fast break layup/dunk vs TT is a microcosm of the season. I seem to recall a few pull up 3s and passes from the paint to the 3 point line on fast breaks too. Those are fine if you have shooters. Somehow we only have two and one of those rides the bench most of the game because of defense.

JJJ slipped on a wet spot on the court on that “blown fast break layup/dunk vs TT”. I’m glad his knee wasn’t destroyed on that play.

And you truly believe JJJ “blew” that play because of his basketball inadequacy? His own mother said what the majority of Tennessee basketball fans knew. I know this first-hand, for a fact.

Where did I mention basketball inadequacy? I said it was a microcosm of the season. What should have been an easy two was a failure. We are absolutely awful on fast breaks this year. Horrid. That play, whatever the cause, was a blown opportunity and we have way too many of them.

I like it when the coach says they need to do better. It dramatically increases their credibility.

Didn’t say that. You said that we should only be starting players that have a shot at getting drafted. I pointed out how dumb that is. You can try and change the subject if it makes you feel better, but that was a dumb take and it remains a dumb take no matter how poorly this team plays.

This program should have moved beyond having to play “effort guys” like Fulky, Small school players like Vescovi, or busts like JJJ. Is there no one else? These guys aren’t good enough to win consistently, especially when the conference is so deep. I hate it.

Players get drafted because they produce. If Barnes is recruiting and playing players that don’t produce, that is dumb. That’s all I’m saying. If a player produces, then they have a chance to get drafted. Thus, we should get some producers that have draft possibilities, not what they’ve got right now.

Not all players that produce get drafted. I totally agree that we need better production. We’d probably have it if we had 4 more guys with NBA potential on the roster too.

The dumb part is saying that we should expect to have that many additional NBA prospects or that the only way to get better production is to have that many of them.

Look, it’s pretty clear you’re disappointed in the team’s performance this year. So am I. It’s also pretty clear you don’t know wtf you’re talking about with regards to the reasons they’ve been underwhelming. So sure, if we had 5 NBA ready players we’d be better. And if frogs had wings they wouldn’t bump their asses the ground. It ain’t happening, so what’s the point?

It’s worrisome that Barnes’ can’t’ seem to get the best recruits out of the state of Tennessee, let alone the country. It’ll be hard to win big like that. I hope they can figure this recruiting thing out.

The #1 player out of Tennessee (Mason Miller) from 2021 is not even playing at Creighton. The #2 player (Johnathan Lawson) is not playing at Memphis. The #3 player (Jerrell Colbert) has only played in 4 games at LSU. Not like the best players are tearing it up elsewhere.

I don’t know why the hate? The facts back up what I am saying. For some examples, I went back and looked at in state recruiting from 2017 to now. There has not been a lot of depth of in state talent, but we have lost a lot more good players than we’ve gotten. Per 247 Sports: 2022 - #1 5 Star Miller to Alabama, #2 4 Star Edwards to UT, #3 4 Star Jackson to FSU. 2021 - 247 counted Chandler from Witchita KS. So #1 went to Creighton, #2-#7 went elsewhere, but we got #8 Tamba. 2020 - #1 5 Star Moussa Cisse went to Memphis, #2 5 Star Keon Johnson to UT, #3 to UF. 2019 - #1-#5 went elsewhere, we got #6 Drew Pember. 2018 - we got 0 ranked TN players. 2017 - 0
Hopefully it’ll be better going forward.

Again, horrid take. Tennessee doesn’t “want” every player that is in the state that’s ranked, the ones they’ve wanted and pursued for the most part they have gotten, you are beyond reaching.

Geez…you must not understand the landscape of TN basketball. The chances of landing anyone west of Jackson are almost nil, with Kennedy Chandler being an extreme exception.

East TN does not have good basketball to produce high level players. So, that normally means we may get someone from the midstate if that year produces anyone.

Otherwise, a vast majority of our best players in the last 20 years- Grant Williams, Admiral Schofield, Jaden Springer, Tobias Harris, Jordan McRae, Josh Richardson, Scotty Hopson, Chris Lofton, and CJ Watson- all from out of state. Chandler, Stokes, and Chism are the only west TN guys in 20 years. Jordan Bone and Keon Johnson were from the midstate.

The TN class of 2020 was not real good other than Keon. Cisse is with his second school and isn’t elite. I believe all top 5 in 2019 were from Memphis. We have done a pretty good job getting who we wanted, but UT basketball has historically needed to recruit outside the state to be successful.

I'll add Dane Bradshaw to your list of guys in the last 20 years from west TN (Memphis). He just barely slides into that time-frame.

What facts? You act like the top guys from Tennessee are these elite ballers, and I proved the top 3 of 2021 are only contributing minimally or not at all. If Barnes got them and they were doing the same here, you'd be whining that Barnes can't evaluate talent.

And the Bradshaw came down to him or Lee Humphrey (Maryville). They were the top 2, and made it clear that Tennessee was only going to get one of them.
