Knecht at the two is not idea but he could play it some. He was basicly playing the point in the second half against NC and it was working. His defense has improved a little. There would be some twos out there you wouldn't want him trying to guard for sure.I definitely don’t think JJJ is most effective at the 3 nor do I think DK would be most effective as a 2…there’s a reason the staff worked DK at the 4 quite a bit in the off season.
Yall are obsessed with excuses on time zones and flying and being tired. You do realize our opponents start the game the same time we do and also flew to Hawaii as well? Maybe you think they took a sail boat over there to avoid jet lag. There was a whole week between Maui and NC. I'm gonna start a lame excuse thread so you can drop them at the end of every loss. It"s true that the team is losing to really good opponents but it's also obvious that the team is not playing to it's capability. That’s not the tradeoff in this system. We’re about to win a lot of games playing good defense, small ball and scoring in our half court offense. We just played two of the three best teams we’ll play all year in an upside down time zone and flew back and played an away game against a top ten quality team with the third seven foot POY candidate of the week. Our rebounding will improve with Awaka in against mortal 5’s. We’re fine. Go back to sleep.
Rebounding as I’ve said multiple times is and will likely continue to be an issue…we’ve played the toughest schedule of any P5 team to date, we’ve faced a bunch of top defenses, I’m not gonna go and make some definitive decisions based on where things are at as of today.Rebounding is a bigger issue but not making shots has been an issue as well.

Defense has improved? I'd venture to guess he gave up 14-18 points in the first half of the UNC game, alone. His defense is still verrry suspect and almost optional, which is perhaps why Santi is allegedly at odds with DK's role. Offense funnels thru him now, but defense is optional. Santi has four years of experience that tells him that won't cut it for Rick Barnes and now all of a sudden, it's OK.Knecht at the two is not idea but he could play it some. Yeah, I’m not sure there is actually an issue Santi has with the Knecht situation. Is this something that seems somewhat logical so we came to a conclusion that it must be true? I haven’t seen any quotes from beat writers anywhere that even insinuate this happening. I also easily could have missed something somewhere. Any ideas?Defense has improved? To be clear, I'm fine with Barnes adjusting his philosophy to allow for elite scorers to take some defensive possessions off if they're providing you 37 points on the other end and playing 38 minutes, but I can understand why players who have spent 3 or 4 years being preached the opposite would find that off-putting.
I'm not sure you'll hear anything official from any beat writers, but Basilio has mentioned it quoting his sources (take that as you will), and this from @Stoerner's Fumble ...Yeah, I’m not sure there is actually an issue Santi has with the Knecht situation. This team is playing about 2/3 its potential. We have some chemistry issues and neither Santi nor ZZ are playing close to their potential. I’ve heard Santi has had a little bit of a challenge adjusting to Knecht being the scoring alpha. Watching him chase drivers off the switch from behind, reach foul, and not follow his shot, I understand sitting him last night. If he can return to form, and ZZ can regain his shot and play more disciplined defense, we’ll be very good. For those of you who like to lay it all on Barnes offense, he signed two scorers and is letting them play aggressively. You wanted to drive more, we are. Break more? Shoot off the dribble earlier in the clock? Ditto. There are tradeoffs, but he’s letting scorers play. We looked bad last night. We’re not. Our rebounding has to improve, but we just played three POY big candidates in three games. Rebounding will suffer. It’s also common for fouls to be lopsided when you play against a team that scores and rebounds in the lane. Knowing UNC’s drive and kick game, chasing drives by help just looked stupid. UNC is a streaky team, but they can also beat anyone on a good night. They shot well on a night where we played one terrible defensive half. I’m ok with it. I still think we can win 22/23 games if Knecht returns by January, and end up three seed or better. Looking forward to the team gelling and getting healthy.
Oh okay. Gotcha. Wish Wes Rucker would weigh in. He reports things exactly as he sees them, but I do understand not wanting to voice an opinion in his position.I'm not sure you'll hear anything official from any beat writers, but Basilio has mentioned it quoting his sources (take that as you will), and this from @Stoerner's Fumble ...

I’m condensing a long conversation, but factually Santi has been frustrated in practice with ball movement and the looks he is getting. Knecht has a constant green light to shoot or drive. That is not true of others. Why he’s frustrated is conjecture, but coming from inside. I know Barnes yelled at him about attitude/defense in practice. He obviously had a short leash at UNC, but he was also fouling too much. I’m sure the drama is less than it appears and I don’t think it will last. Santi has always been a team first player.Oh okay. Regardless, I can understand that it’s human nature to question or have feelings when the new kid in town changes the landscape. I do think our INAM wins out in this situation, ultimately.

Any truth to the rumor that he and Barnes had a sort of reckoning/airing of grievances in the locker room post-UNC?I’m condensing a long conversation, but factually Santi has been frustrated in practice with ball movement and the looks he is getting. I think everybody out there gave up 14-18 points. It's hard to give up 61 unless everybody is just standing around watching.Defense has improved? So long as everyone comes back healthy I think UT has time to right the ship and be very good. They lost to two Top 3 teams in close games in Maui and got a UNC team who was red hot shooting on their home court. Awaka is critical in my opinion and needs 20 minutes per game when healthy. We are struggling on the glass and that is what he does best and while he isn’t a go to post player at least he gives us something in that area. But Santiago has to simply play up to the standard he has set for years and isn’t close to that for whatever reason.I th

They
They had an advantage playing at home of course. The rest is just a lame ass excuses
It doesn't happen often because they are a blue blood and they are at home. A flight a week earlier has nothing to do with it.It’s not an excuse. It’s just reality. Not many teams are going to go to UNC and pull off a win. The other things pretty much need to line up and flying across the world twice in the previous week doesn’t line things up. I’m not going to lose my **** over not pulling off a win at the Dean Dome like the usual critics have.
