Butch conisders Atlanta "home territory"

We don't own Georgia. We effectively go into a talent-rich state and pluck 5-6 very talented players out of that state each year now that Butch is running the show. Our last 3 classes have netted 15 players from Georgia, which is great. But how many dozens of fantastic D1 players have come out of Georgia the last 3 years. While we've done great getting some outstanding players from the state, we hardly "own" Georgia.

Haha! Sorry, not trying to undermine the "feel-good" around how well we're doing getting some really good players out of Georgia. Just think anyone saying we "own Georgia" because we've gotten 5 players per year the last 3 is a bit foolish. For example, Florida just got 5 players from Georgia in their 2015....do they "own" the state, too?

Tennessee is starting to be able to pick and choose what they want in Georgia which is the start of recruiting dominance

USCe, Auburn, Bama, and UGA will always get their fair share of players from this state.

We own georgia off the field and about to own them on the field, starting this year at Neyland, in front of 107k.

No doubt...
Florida- 5
Clemson - 4
Alabama- 3
Auburn- 10
And of course, Georgia- 15

There are several other schools that I could list here, just decided to stop at 5 other schools.

Now, we got 8 out of Georgia which is great. Among these 6 schools, a total of 45 players hailing from Georgia were signed....we got 17% of them. We've clearly made significant inroads into the state and we're getting some outstanding players out of there. But to say that we "own the state" is displaying quite a bit of hubris and is factually incorrect.

We do? Based on what? They signed twice as many players from Georgia this year as we did. For crying out loud.

Btw, our stadium holds 102,455, not 107k.

I think pick and choose could be overstating it just a bit. There are a boatload of D1 players in Georgia annually, and Butch is certainly doing great getting the players from schools with which he's built strong relationships. But the number of players that we've gotten out of there doesn't suggest any type of dominance. For example, we signed 8 players from Georgia this past class, which is not only great, but is more than we signed the previous 2 classes combined (7). However, Auburn just signed 10 and Georgia 15. I think we're doing great getting 8 players out of a talent-rich state like Georgia, but it hardly shows dominance.

That's what they will announce. I'm sure 4-5k more will weasel in there. I can see the guards now letting a few more thousand in. This is UT, big boy football. Opposing fans should fear Neyland. They will.

That is UT's championship formula- lock down the home state, focus on being at least #2 in GA, then fill in from other areas. There was a time when VA and MS were pretty good to UT as well.

Negative. Butch is doing a good job but he's not Saban yet.

I've been critical of Jones at times but to this point he's been just as impressive as Saban in recruiting. The last two classes he's landed were top 5 WITHOUT the benefit of having won a NC as a HC OR coaching a program with recent success. The players who committed to Jones almost exclusively before the end of the '14 season were mostly 12 year olds the last time UT finished with a winning record. They were 10 the last time UT played in the SEC CG. They were born the year UT last won the SEC.

Jones has EVERY appearance of being an elite recruiter worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as the very best.... now if he can just translate that into wins.

Cracks me up that the article didn't even mention Smith and Picou even though they are from one of the best programs in the state. I know they are a little lower rated but I think Smith could end up as the best HS player we get from GA in this class.

Btw, 102,455 includes media, players, refs, coaches, etc. Also, game attendance figures are a huge source of athletic department pride and are also recruiting tools. Don't you think if we could possibly claim those extra 4-5k that we would. After all, we used to claim 107, 108, 109k when we could, before Neyland stadium remodels reduced the number of seats and hence total capacity.

Agree with you that other teams should concern themselves with the Neyland home field advantage....Butch should be able to capitalize on one of the game day environments in the country as he continues to accumulate more talent....that's ultimately is what makes the biggest difference.

1. Tennessee
2. Georgia
3. Carolinas
4. Virginia

IMHO, this, in order, are the target areas. Then we fill in with select athletes from other states no matter where they may be. Would like to see them make a few more inroads into Ohio maybe, but it's hard to argue with our recruiting footprint right now. They're just doing a great job, esoecially in Georgia.
