Butch Dancing

Meh, guess you gotta do that kind of stuff these days to get recruits. Its pretty unfortunate. Not quite what Parseghian, Neyland, or the Bear would do, but hey, this is the new millennium. No sense of propriety needed anymore.

I too dislike that our coach knows how to have fun with and relate to players.

I hope all of the players and 100,000 fans do "The Butch" in front of Kiffin and Saban while CBJ walks to the middle of the field like the professional he is for the winning handshake. Just my dream. ESPN top play of the day.

My guess since CGRN was a motivator he is looking down on CBJ, smiling, nodding his head, getting a little jiggy, thinking he has someone that loves UT running the team now.

Butch looked like he was seizing, not dancing.

The foots ball ain't watt et usa be, et sempley es watt et iss.

Which really is a shame. Probably should have a guitarist playing "Don't Let Me Cross Over" and doing a slow jig or polka instead of that ghetto stuff.

Or better yet to the lyrics of :
o/ o/ If revenoors sucked on the jug, we wouldn't mine. o/ o/
o/ o/ But when they poured the stuff on the ground, we didn't moan and groan. o/ o/
o/ o/ We just thoroughly aerated them and never sent them home. o/ o/
o/ o/ Just making sure, you understand that there would be no next time. o/ o/

I can't diss what Butch is doing. He's only having fun. I hope those students enjoyed it. I thought it was odd.

Showing your age there pappy. I really like most of your posts. But at some point you have to understand this ain't your daddy's sports team era. And as far as it being ghetto. A lot of people who don't live in the ghetto listen to rap. So that's really not a fair or factual statement. I'm a white man in his upper 40's making six figures with a security clearance. And I listen to it. It's great for working out. Along with both new and classic rock, jazz, easy listening, hair metal, spa and much more. Gotta love Sirius/XM. Sometimes it's very hard for people to change. But the world keeps on changing everyday. You don't have to keep up with it. But at least stop complaining about it. Because there isn't anything you can do to make the world what it was when you were young. Embrace the new. Learn it. Understand it. And you will thrive in it.

It's still mostly meaningless, senseless crap. I can talk about banging strippers, shooting my rivals, and losing my money all day.

But this thread is not about the senseless drivel that makes up most urban music - it is about the enormous level of "team spirit" that video evidences and just how much the team genuinely seems to "get Butch" and how much they feel he "gets" them. That kind of personal bond has not been at UT for many a year.

And dont be silly with the idea Butch is promoting the ideals of ghetto lyrics or literally denigrating himself by participating for a moment with them. I dont think ANYONE would claim CBJ would not get in their face and chew it off in a split second if a player (or coach) was not performing/living to his lofty expectations. So put down the sour pickle juice and enjoy the fact that this coach knows how to bond with players and actually cares enough to do so. Not sure how much difference that will make in September but I KNOW it makes a difference on signing day and THAT translates directly to the W/L record more than almost any other factor.

Funny you should say that. When I was young. I listened to Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Metallica, and other metal. And all of the blue hairs back then thought us young ones were all worshiping the devil. The funny thing about aging is unless you really keep up with the times. You find yourself saying things you really don't understand. Think about how funny it is now to look back at those bands. Not one of them worshiped the devil. And as a matter of fact. Dave Mustain from Megadeath is a avid church goer. Always has been. I believe that to each his own. But to criticize and make general blanket statements doesn't help anyone. I don't mind at all that Butch understands what these young men like in a music genre. He is helping these young men become adults the right way. While bringing our Vols back to a premier team in the SEC. I'm not sure how much talent we could bring in if our practice video's had music from the 50's and 60's. Just sayin.....

Those people actually have talent. They also used words above the 5th grade level. Those guys you mentioned also wrote songs that mean a lot. I'm not saying all rappers fit this mold as I'm a huge tupac and tech n9ne fan. Most of the ones getting air play write like this stereotype.

Great for morale and team bonding. Love it! :good!:
Somehow, I would rather see Bear Bryant, Vince Lombardi, Don Shula, Bud Grant, or Nick Saban standing stoically on the sideline winning games , instead of our guy being one of the boys.

That's a symptom of the music industry as a whole now though. Most of the music that makes the billboards is made by production companies that know how to make and market a song. Probably over half of the music on the top 40 isn't written by the artists who perform them.

Huge music labels just need a face and a name to attach to a song so it can be marketed. And people still buy it. This is true for a lot of big names in pop and hip hop.

Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus songs are just as mindless as most of the rap in the top 40 today.

There are rappers who putting out music that isn't mindless drivel though. I think Kanye West is a pretty huge jackass, but Yeezus had some songs that took on some pretty heavy issues. Probably half of New Slaves focuses on the prison industrial complex. Can't Hold My Liquor deals with struggling against alcoholism/substance abuse. I don't like Kanye West as a person, but he is undoubtedly talented in the way he makes music and beats (though his lyrics are admittedly lacking in substance sometimes). Even the late great Lou Reed thought Yeezus was a masterpiece. You should read his review of the album sometime. It was really interesting.

There are a lot of quality non-mainstream rappers as well (too many to get into).

There's (a little ) substance and (a lot of) garbage in every genre of mainstream (radio) music. That's why I mostly stick to sports radio or classic rock when I turn on the radio. You always know what you're getting with those.

How in the hell can the coach of our football team having fun with his players after a faculty/student appreciation event be viewed in a bad light? Y'all kill me.
