Where would we be if this would have happened?

I want a defensive minded coach. Everyone kept saying BD was dirty. He has been cleared by the NCAA and UNC. Another article talked about how he cleaned up the program at Miami.

Given UT's history of going cheap on hiring coaches believe me Butch could be had at a bargain.

This whole thread is in fun. I would take him over Dooley or for DC. I figured out who John Blake is. Pretty lame interview with Butch about him.

I honestly would have no problem taking Butch Davis...He has improved every team he has ever coached.

I think Butch Davis would be a BETTER, yes better choice than Gruden but I'd be happy with either!

Davis can recruit, coach and knows how to put together a staff.

Who was his OC at NC? He was damn good and would fit the weapons we have now perfectly.

He fits the SEC mold. Defense, defense, defense. Run game. Pittman, the best pick up along with Graham, was on his staff.

Was Randy Shanon his DC at Miami? I think that could be interesting as well.

Davis has built a quality tree of assistants that have also moved onto success, ala Saban...I believe that speaks to the quality of a head coach as much as anything.

I really wanted to see BD here in 2006 but Hammmy kept Fulmer too long and things didn't work out. I'm not sure that I'd go after BD at this point. I don't think UNC has even gotten a final ruling from the NCAA on thier penalties from the recruiting violations that BD's assistants committed. If he's the choice, I'll back him but I wouldn't put him #2 on my list.

Butch recruited well to UNc beating us out on a couple of top notch dt's in Fulmers last or next to last year. One of them was a big dt from the DC area.
