A major sign of a good coach is an ability to pull off a major upset in thier first season - even if the overall season is a losing one. Thus it is huge that CBJ got a great win in 2013 with the win over USC, who ended the season ranked #4 in the final AP poll.

In fact, in the 15 years since 1998, TN has only beaten 3 other teams that ended up in the top five of the final AP poll. ONLY 3 in 15 years!

2001 UF (final AP #4)
2003 Miami (final AP #5)
2007 UGA (final AP #2).

That's it.

And Butch Jones comes in, with a rag tag roster and beats the #4 team in the final AP poll!

Hard to argue with facts. Butch has elite potential, our fans are our only enemy at this point! Support him fully Volnation. Butch's tenure will mirror Serrano's work on the diamond.

I could buy that if otherwise they were competitive.

When you have two well coached games vs 4 blowouts/Vandy loss/UF loss/USA win then you are being very generous in saying the "jury is still out".

I am not sure what you think you are helping by pointing out that UT failed to beat the better teams during Fulmer's decline. That's pretty much part and parcel to his decline. He beat the weaklings and lost to the better coaches and programs... until the weaklings started catching up too.

He may have elite "potential". I really and truly hope that he does. But the coach overall in '13 does not support that tag.

We are coming and hang in there this year because next year is when we will rule the East for many years to come, in saying that we are going to win 7 at least this year.:dance2:

I wish Worley hadn't of gotten hurt.

Me too.

I think Mizzou would have been more competitive with Worley. Vandy would have more than likely have been a win.

Auburn might have been more competitive too.

Worley's ability to "manage" the O helped the D.

I want to believe that and will sing hymns of praises to the coaches if they get that out of this roster.

all the QB's need to make alot of progress(well 1 will work), and I think we will all be happy. if they don't :whistling:

I'm so exicted for spring practice, and the Orange&White game to see how they have progressed.

I think that win showed Butch's potential also. I'm willing to forgive ugly losses last season based on the talet we fielded.

I'm gonna have to see how this season pans out with the added talent before I decide whether I think he's gonna be a great coach.

However, I think we need to give him 4 seasons as long as he is able to get us back into bowls the next two seasons. Hell, I may even settle for one of the next two seasons if we miss out on a bowl this year but look really competitive in all of our games save maybe Bama and OU and Butch keeps 'cruitin up a storm.

I'm a big believer in stability. Even if Butch doesn't turn out to be or long term answer, I think he could be the guy who comes in and rights the ship for our next great coach.

I'm interested to see how many bad habits he breaks in this team. A class this large is basically a big reset on several habits, and the remaining are in year 2 with CBJ and co. Hope for alot more intensity every game.

One reason it's so few might be that by us beating them it knocked them out of the Top 5!

In 2005 UT beat LSU at LSU and they wound up 5 in the coaches' poll. Does that count as a signature win for Fulmer? :)

This same post was repeated during dools fiasco.. U will know soon if cbj can win here.. At some point u will say yes or no.. N I believe it will be this year.. All stats have shown championship coaches make great strides n yr 2.

N no freaking whining about the other coaches didn't have it this bad.. Lol

He has to make strides no staying the same..

I think that we'll see glimpses of what we have in these kids next year but we're awfully young. I'm ready for spring practice and who will seize the QB position.

Butch will get us back on top of the SEC. You will see. And if your on top of the SEC your top in the Nation. I like the way Butch supports other teams at Tennessee. You see him at basketball games, baseball games. He probably will show up at Lady Vols softball games.

Is that 7 with or without a bowl win? If it's the first choice, then I agree with you. :p
