Butch gets a Top 5 Win

This same post was repeated during dools fiasco.. U will know soon if cbj can win here.. At some point u will say yes or no.. N I believe it will be this year.. All stats have shown championship coaches make great strides n yr 2.

N no freaking whining about the other coaches didn't have it this bad.. Lol

He has to make strides no staying the same..

Link?

In three seasons, Dooley didn't even beat one ranked team - he clearly did not beat a team that ended in the top 5 of the final AP poll.

Don't even think about comparing Butch to Dooley.

This is pretty much my reasoning. I expect to see a better team next season, but there are circumstances in which I could stomach a non-bowl season.

I wouldn't be happy with it and I'll have much higher expectations for year 3 regardless (especially since we'll be returning so many starters and most I the guys playing at that point will be Butch's guys), but I could stomach only beating Vandy, UK, USU, Chat, and Arky State if we gave all of our oconferencs opponents hell and showed some real promise.

If our season looks pretty much identical to last season my patience will start to wear thin though.

I could buy that if otherwise they were competitive.

When you have two well coached games vs 4 blowouts/Vandy loss/UF loss/USA win then you are being very generous in saying the "jury is still out".

I am not sure what you think you are helping by pointing out that UT failed to beat the better teams during Fulmer's decline. That's pretty much part and parcel to his decline. He beat the weaklings and lost to the better coaches and programs... until the weaklings started catching up too.

Right on cue with the CBJ hate. You're so predictable.

We are coming and hang in there this year because next year is when we will rule the East for many years to come, in saying that we are going to win 7 at least this year.:dance2:

I like your optimism, but we have had only 1 great recruiting class. Our main competitors have had several great classes. Face it, it will take a couple of years to catch up with them. We could get breaks to go our way and win 7, but more wins are unlikely.

Tennessee would have been 7-5 and Bowling had Worley played the whole season. I think Tennessee would have played Georgia Tech in the Music City Bowl.

Worley was slow to release ball, inaccurate (North great catches won S. Carolina).. Dobbs was a good runner, poor passer, fourth string. Peterman played Florida....too soon. Ferguson did not start due to injury last part of season. I hope Ferguson is the ace in the hole.. Last year qbs threw 10 td passes for season. 2012 bray threw 34 td passes. the key to being successful will be a big jump in quarterback play..

It was a great win. But, if you are going to count it as a "top 5 win" (and I agree, it should be counted that way), then you don't get to count the Florida loss as a loss to a top 25 team, as most on here like to do.

I agree that qb play will be a huge factor. But that 34 td 2012 team won 5 games. There are other areas that obviously need work too.

Not sure if this one has been posted yet, but I think it's appropriate

Good point....or UGA as an almost "Top 10" win.

I find it pretty hilarious that we keep seeing posts saying... We know he can recruit, but can he coach? YES nega's!!!!! We have proof he can coach also. He will prove it again this year with a couple more quality wins and finally a bowl win, which we need desperately in order to get the train rolling with a little more speed.

Me too.

I think Mizzou would have been more competitive with Worley. Vandy would have more than likely have been a win.

Auburn might have been more competitive too.

Worley's ability to "manage" the O helped the D.

I thought the problem was coaching?

Negavol says he's gonna go down swinging.

Butch had a collection of QBs to work with that ranged from undertalented to true freshmen. On defense he had maybe the slowest defense in college football since teams were all white. Not sure how competitive you expected Butch to be in the SEC in his first season with so many albatrosses hanging around his neck.

Another point to consider is that Butch's Top 5 win was earned against a consensus furture Hall of Fame Head Coach. Butch had less talent that CSS. The only way he got TN that win was by out coaching the Hall of Famer himself.

Butch Gets It.

I get trying to keep people realistic, but it can't be fun being a fan when some of the people on here are always so negative. Where's the fun in that? Keep your expectations realistic, but dang people... try to be optimistic, it won't kill you. Have a beer and relax.

I have actually been pretty consistent in saying that coaching was a MAJOR issue but that talent was as well.

I don't think there is any question that Worley led the team well. I think he's a better QB than most here as well. IMHO, they were just starting to develop some QB/WR rapport when he got hurt.
