Hey if you are going to drink with a Tennessee man, you need to make it Sour Mash and leave that bourbon for the Kentucky folks.

lol! I could talk UT football all day, I'm sure with Bourbon or Sour Mash the football talk would be interesting. I usually lose my filter when alcohol is involved though. It's all I can do to keep my true feelings about all the beaching and moaning on Volnation today.

Bourbon's made from sour mash (like every whiskey/whisky)
and Tennessee whiskey has so much sugar in it that it might as well be maple syrup.

This is why Irish whiskey never let me down.
Besides, I drink the stuff with my name on it.

I remember a thread just like this for Dooley. Omg

And at that time no one knew how he was going to do. What good can possibly can come of not supporting Jones? You want rid of him now before he even has a chance? Who else is out there that you could guarantee would do better that wants to be here? That we could afford? Nothing good can come of getting on here and being negative. If a great recruit got on here and saw all the BS, and that was the reason he didn't want to be here, then why is it worth it to do it? Let's just support the guy and go on about our business and hope he works out. That's all we can do. So far in all my 31 yrs of life, the only time I can remember that a fan had a right to be mad at an Athletic Department is the Penn St. situation. All the rest of it is the usual fan banter that's all part of being a fan.

Well at least three other guys turned it down. And Tennessee is a unique situation. In state recruiting sucks, all time high level of competition, and the craziest and most passionate fan base in the country. Tennessee has to be one of the most challenging coaching jobs out there right now. Especially when you look at next year's schedule.

Agreed

He does have guts and confidence. He wanted to jump right in the middle of the fray. I believe we need to shoot for 90,000 people at the Spring Game to show our support! GBO!!!

I am gonna support him because its not his fault, but lets step back and look at the big picture here. We just hired a head football coach at the UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE and all we can say is "at least he isn't scared". No slam on Coach Jones because everybody starts somewhere and maybe be is the next real deal, but that speaks volumes about what our administration thinks. We settled plain and simple. Name another successful team in the SEC that just settled. Dang I wanna punch someone in the face!

A) The successful SEC teams aren't hiring new coaches.
B) Auburn just hired a first year head coach from Arkansas State. Tell me how that isn't riskier than hiring a head coach with a winning record and multiple conference championships.
C) Arkansas' hire looks great but if we hired Wisconsin's coach people would ***** and moan about us becoming a Big 10 school and you know the Big 10 cannot compete with the SEC.
D) Kentucky is the only other SEC school that hired a coach and who the Hell cares who they hired?
E) Every top notch coach in the SEC that was hired into the SEC was a risk except for Saban and Spurrier to USCe. Everybody else was taking on a bigger challenge and there is risk involved. I'm sure Spurrier from Duke to Florida raised eyebrows. I know for a fact that Florida fans weren't real excited about getting Muschamp. Les Miles was successful at Okie State but they don't play any defense out there and LSU is in the SEC. No way will he be able to do what Saban did.

Let's give this guy a chance. He wanted the job. He turned down three other opportunities that were less challenging if all he wanted was a bigger paycheck. In a couple of years we will know where we stand with this guy. Go Vols!

Here it is...

I'm not jumping up and down doing backflips because we managed to steal the coach from Cincinnatti either but I'll support him as long as he's the head coach.

This job isn't what it used to be "nationally" no matter how we as diehard orange-bleeders feel. The fact of the matter is that Butch Jones wants to be here and wanted this job all along. That's the problem with most everything with the program...we need more people involved who honestly want to be at Tennessee from the fans to the players to the coaching staff.

We need to stop acting like we're having to move all the SEC and National Championship trophies just to find a seat and realize we're rebuilding and need someone who is willing to take on that task because he sees the potential and opportunity ahead.

I've been a diehard Tennessee fan all my life and travelled all over the country to follow UT from Lexington to Tempe and I must say that I've been embarrassed by a lot of the talk on this site over the last few weeks. I would have liked to have seenGruden, Gundy, or even Strong but the fact is they chose not to come here and we know why.

Support Coach Butch Jones and let's get Tennessee back to where we belong.

Go Vols!

True it is a straight bourbon but you will never see Jack Daniels or George Dickel claim it as such. It goes though what is called the Lincoln County Process, they filter it though thick layer of maple charcoal (that might be what you taste). Only 3 brands currently use that method and all 3 are in the state of Tennessee. (Collier and McKeel) is the other one. lol I could talk history of Tennessee Whiskey all day it's history is a hobby of mine.

For the people yelling "off topic" Lighten up there are a thousand other thread to whine about the Jones hire.
I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope it works out.

No, I understood it just fine. I just disagree with it.

Okay....obviously you didn't. I was not saying you can't be excited or upbeat about our coach. I was merely stating at a proud program like ours we shouldn't have to use the excuse that "at least he has a pair" for our head football coach. If that is what makes us get all warm and fuzzy inside over our coach then we have a problem. Do you think any of the other contenders in our league say that?

Shouldn't we be able to " get excited" about the merits of our coach and what he has done and not the fact that "he has a pair". Is that too much to expect at UT?

You don't think LSU fans say that every time Les Miles pulls something out of his arse? How many times has he made a ballsy call and won a game? There's no way you make some of the calls he makes without having guts. If they hadn't have worked out, then he would've been ran out of town a long time ago.

I'm with what you are sayin. I just think we are not at a point in the life of our program to be making risky calls. I think after Strong turns us down we step back and survey the situation and figure this deal out. Don't get me wrong I think this hire is as solid as Charlie Strong.

If we set back, chances are we lose Jones to Colorado. Then where do we go?

Thanks,,,nicely said. I'm in 100 percent. Tennessee has been a bottom feeding program for five years. Get over the 90's this is the new Tennessee. I wish him well. Just hope they give him the money for a decent staff. I want Tee back most of all.

Look at this through a potential hire's eyes. I read this point of view in some article last night.

You're asked to be the coach at Tennessee. You're gonna have to leave a less stressful situation. MNF, Louisville, Oklahoma St., or any other place that is not the SEC. If you do take the job you gotta take an underdog into Oregon next year. You play UF, GA, BAMA, USCe, every year. You rotate teams like LSU, TA&M, and some other talented West teams. You also risk your current easy chair job and in three years you could be like Dooley searching for some DII School to give you a job. Or get hired on as an assistant for someone else. Butch Jones never hesitated and accepted the offer pretty quickly it seems. Let's give the guy a dang chance. This guy knows what he's up against and he still took the job. Let's give him some credit for that.

Imagine when he was standing on the sideline last year when we played Cincy. He has to realize the potential this place has. He knows our history, our facilities, the money he'll have to recruit with. He wants this challenge when everyone wimped out. That's shows he has guts. Go Vols!

Remember; a lot people said Fla. was screwing up by hiring CUM.
