Butch Jones = Bruce Pearl?

Well one thing to consider is the upgrade in talent he is able to get and is currently reeling in at UT. CBJ never had this luxury at Central Michigan or Cincy and was able to win in the MAC and Big East. With that being said the guy has to get it done on the field. The good news is he is already getting the Jimmys and Joes to compete in this league and is reaching out to the fans with social media unlike Dooley . He has done everything right so far and I believe the wins will follow shortly.

Again, this is a D-tackle league. He's not even getting the top DT's in our own state, hell, they're going to vandy! And LMFAO @ comparing him to Dewlee.. Why would you?

Nah.. Bruce never said we were smart enough to know he can't get the job done his first year(when getting the job done means breaking .500 in the sec). I was a fan until this stupid remark. I don't recall pearl saying anything like that, it looks as though we have a generic Rich Rod. He thinks he can win with offense, and have no defense in the sec? But infact he doesn't even believe in his own Nhhuo.. Recruits are gonna start decommitting by the S.Carolina game. I hope I'm wrong, but probably not..

If anyone has anything to say about these statements, post his head to head & upset record!

The difference lies in the level of competition. When Bruce took over the program, were there any teams excelling in the SEC? Kentucky was down, and I don't think Donovan had Florida going as a powerhouse yet. Butch, as well should you, recognizes that SEC football is at an all time high not only with championships but with a ridiculous amount of top 10 teams. Not to mention a basketball team can be successful with one star player, talented freshman, or fundamentally strong veterans it is easier to compete right a way as opposed to football which requires an experienced, talent laden TEAM. Butch knows he doesn't have that yet.

Just telling it how I see it.. I was "full butch", but it seems like he has some doubt in his own plan.. How many Dt's does he have committed in a Dt league? And all Bs aside, we have a good D-line & O-line THIS YEAR & he has no hope of having a good season? Hard to have faith at this point!

Our o-line has been great but what make you think are d-line is so good? Our d-line has been average at best the past few seasons with little to zero pass rush. However, we do have quite a few seniors and juniors that must step up and play to their potential but the d-line is unproven. Also, I am almost positive that we will have some quality dts by NSD IMO.

UT has been recruiting in the top 25 the last 5 yrs choncho, why does everyone expect to finish 6th in the east? Behind who? Kentucky, vandy, Missouri, S.Carolina? All of whom we've been out recruiting year in & year out. I thought this was a damn coaching problem! Is it not?

If you have something to say about my statement's, please add arguments.. Not, "you drunk"? nonsense.

If we lack DT when this class is signed, you will have a valid point. As of now, everything has gone better than expected. :good!:

He has proven he builds championship winning teams...he has proven he knows how to beat the teams in his conference. If he has elite talent there is no reason to believe he can't continue his winning tradition.

Dooley was the last coach and the majority of the players that will see the field are Dooley recruits, so that seems fair with what he has to work with. I know this is a dt league but you gotta remember that it is along way until NSD and the few remaining spots will be filled with quality defensive lineman. If Franklin signs some in state guys so what, we are holding our own pretty well.

Don't blame cyclops for butches lack of an Sec recruiting mindset

I agree n if he really believes he is going to outscore everyone with an avg def he will be in shock by the time SC rolls around.

Def n a great running game wins championships n he if deviates from this he better have a Heisman qb because that's the only way he will win a championship.

As long as when we get our #1 ranking, we don't lose it the next week to Vandy I'm happy.

I don't remember seeing that either......also Butch stated this was a line of scrimmage league and they need to win both sides....I have seen nowhere that Butch believes in offense and no defense.

The parallels between Butch Jones and Bruce Pearl are obvious. I just hope Butch can have as much success doing "more with less" as Coach Pearl did until he gets all the right pieces in place. Ideally, we'd have both Butch and Bruce on staff to guide the future of Volunteer basketball and football.

Don't like the Pearl analogy. What he did on the court is tainted by his stupidity off of it.

Agree with one-eye that we need DTs. At least two, preferably three. You have to stop the run in the SEC. If you can't, you're screwed.

I hadn't heard Butch was downplaying how we'll play this year. When did this happen? If his d-line coach can't put something together with what we have, then Butch needs to hire someone better that can. There are pieces there, they just need good coaching. If what Cy is saying is accurate, it disturbs me that Butch has so little faith in his coaches. After all, I thought they wre the "best". Recruiting means nothing if you can't back it up with coaching.
