Butch Jones has to man up

The signing bonus was pretty significant ($500,000) and should be counted as part of his salary.

I guess my point was both the signing bonus and buyout, accounting for about $2 million, were one-time costs. It's still money spent so you can certainly look at it either way, but Butch won't be in the top five after this year; I think he's 18th without the $2 million included, or something like that.

It's the second time I've had to say that this year about our HFC. It's now troublingly consistent.

He threw Peterman under the bus against Florida - a coaching decision even more inexplicable than the fake FG.

There are no excuses worth a damn tonight: bye week, at home, more talent, speed, and power to utilize than the other team, a bowl game and momentum on the line.

Butch should have thanked all the seniors, apologized for not having the team ready, and given us some confidence it's going to be different next year.

He didn't do it; another troubling consistency.

Why? Would it make you feel better about silliness of the last few years? Too bad our players had no coaching the last 3 years before this one.

There's not much Butch could have said one way or the other that would make me feel any better about tonight. I'm sure he's frustrated and has used up all if his rah rah speeches.

I think the players have his back on and off the field. I know it sounds corny, but I think that's important. Dooley never earned the players respect.

I'm disappointed too. Believe me. Ever since 2005 I can't count how many times I've said to myself "this has to be the bottom."

Me too Freak. Unfortunately, if its even possible to not be at the bottom after losing to Vandy, I don't think this team has hit it yet. I believe bottom comes next week after we finish the season on a 5 game losing streak with losses to Vandy and Kentucky to record the first ever 8 loss season in school history.

Pretty sure losing to Vandy and Kentucky in the same year would be a new rock bottom.

Good coaches are supposed to be able to coach mediocre players up. For God's sake Franklin has gotten vandy into a bowl 3 years in a row. Vandy!!!! That alone should tell you what a good coach can do.

I think I love you and I'm old married guy . . . sorry if creepy.

...and yet, throughout all those year of "no coaching" they never finished worse than they did with a full year of Butch's coaching. Odd, huh?

Ok i get being disappointed in the outcome of the game. But all offseason I said this was at best a 7 win season and most likely 6-6. That was before Mizzou turned out to be one of the best teams in the East and Auburn had a chance to win the West.

So with those turn of events a 5 win season isn't bad. i mean we had almost no play makers on O, were returning most of the players from the worst D we ever had and got stuck with yet another mostly Dooley class to come in to help. I'm honestly just happy we didn't get demolished by Vandy again and were more than a 3 win team. As long as we win next week I will be happy with the season and what CBJ is doing.

Butch needs to explain why with two weeks to prepare for VANDY he and his sucky staff cannot come up with a better game plan for offense and defense. What a pile of slop we saw last night. It was Dooley part II all over again.

Enough with the excuses. We are TN, we deserve to WIN. This lose is on the coaching staff 100%. The offense was horrible, and perhaps the worse showing from two football teams on National TV in YEARS!

I won't say Butch is a bad coach. But something just isn't clicking right now. And hasn't been since the SC win.

We deserve to win because we are TN ? Could be the dumbest post I've ever read. You deserve to win when you put the best team on the field and out play the other team. We have to get better players before we win anything. I doesn't make a **** who we are.

I think we've had worse showings than yesterday. We don't have the players to win with yet. Maybe you guys will someday realize it'll take more than one year. We have a bunch of babies on this forum.

Well, if Butch is scared of Vandy, he's at the wrong school. We play them every year and we expect to beat them. Soundly. Even when they're good.

The last thing we needed was another controversial coaching staff from a lesser-regarded school in a lower-tier conference that has to learn about the grind of the SEC OTJ. But that's exactly what we have. Welcome to big boy ball, Best Coaching Staff in America. You get paid the big bucks. Earn it.

Not trying to start crap with people on here, and I love Butch, but he coached like he was scared tonight. All these excuses of our talent level is really starting to piss me off. We may not have the most talent, but we have much better talent than the Nashville nerds.

Sadly,I'm not sure we do.

Tonight sucked. There's no excuse. But the fourth down play really didn't impact the game, IMO. It was as good as a punt. And as for Butch, his record will speak for itself one way or the other. Who cares what he says to the fans after a loss? The players had his back after the game and that's more important to our program right now than whether or not fans are warm and fuzzy over his post game speech.

Now that I have had time to chill out and shake off a bad hangover, your post makes perfect sense. thx

About $2 million of his income this year was his buyout and signing bonus. It makes this year's salary a bit misleading. But technically he was top five, but won't be next season. :hi:

They can break me off a piece of that one year stuff anytime! :)

Butch talked the talk and had me believing for the first time since Fulmer.

He and his staff have yet to walk the walk. Win yesterday and we are still on course. There are no excuses for what happened. We pulled up anchor and are drifting for at least nine months now. Not even a great day in February is going to erase all doubt.
