Butch Jones has

whether you bluehairs like it or not, twitter is extremely popular today, especially in high school aged kids. Pretty much every recruit has a twitter and uses it. Jones knows this and is addressing it by embracing it. I think it's pretty cool that he is reaching out to fans in this way and has so many followers. I don't know what more a coach can do to get you on their side IN THE OFFSEASON (remember i said that), but dammit he is trying. Do we have to negate everything this guy does before he coaches a game? This isn't an accomplishment, you goobers, its just something to bring up when there's nothing going on. Sorry this isn't the parade-worthy news you were looking for, but it's something. Enjoy your miserable lives this offseason and just don't look at volnation if it bothers you so much.

Bingo.

I am proud of the fact that Jones has found an immediate connect with the tween girl populace of the Big Orange Nation.

That's very encouraging.

Now how about stealing a few more solid recruits from SEC schools?

Surpassed Mark Richt in number of Twitter followers. This is huge and hopefully one day he will have more followers than any other coach. Where does this put him at? 3rd?

Go Vols

How embarrassing once he gets twitter world locked down maybe CBJ can get a gig on dancing with the stars. That would be HUGE!!!!

Not meant to be derogatory to CBJ only the op.

What would u have him say....I have the WORST STAFF INAMERICA but I'll do what I can!!!! It's called leading your organization from in front....the staff knows he's supporting them and I don't think anyone ACTUALLY thought he was declaring his staff undisputed world champs...JMHO

I would appreciate honesty. He could've said, guys I'm gonna roll up my sleeves and make Tennessee the best possible program it can be. I'm gonna work hard to try and make that happen and I'm going to start with he staff. I will assemble the best staff possible and surround myself with guys that I feel will have the best interest of the university of Tennessee and our student athletes at heart.

Something like that I suppose could've been better. It's honest, it's not promising something you can't deliver. Jmho though.

Wouldn't you bring the people who helped you get there and knew your system? If you have a sales staff and you kill it in your division, don't you want the same team when you get moved to a bigger region to continue the work you've already started?

If he feels really confident in his system, he'd want the guys who know how to run it. Plus some to add strength in other areas.

(I can argue both sides of this, so just throwing this out for discussion. And sorry for calling you a drama queen earlier.)

I get what you are saying vollygirl. I understand the comfort in bringing your original staff, but it's not the best.

That's why I said what I said. It would've been easier for him to say I will bring in the best possible staff for the university of Tennessee and our student athletes.

Fans have gone through the ringer so to speak with coaches promising things. The guy is going to work hard, but things would be a lot easier on him if he would just not be so bold. He hasnt done anything to be bold. Just work hard and people will like and rally around you.

The best staff is a relative term though, right? Who we think would be the best staff in college football isn't necessarily the staff that would produce wins.

Anyway, I'd rather have somebody that assumes he's gonna win and works towards that goal than somebody who is gonna work hard and see what happens. (That's an opinion I've formed over the last three years. :cray:)

CBJ had been up for over 24 hours negotiating and talking to Dave Hart. He had just got his "dream job" and was extremely excited. He was pulling out cliche's left and right and I'm sure he didn't realize Vol fans would hang on every single word. Keeping CJG and hiring Martinez and Thigpen make this a damn good staff. Is it the best in America probably not but it's an excellent staff. Anyone that holds a coach to every single thing said at a hiring pc is asking to much. The general theme is what really counts.

Im sorry, but I politely disagree. The fact is that there are many people that share your opinion. The opinion that he was just being bold, using cliches, and just being excited and not paying much attention to what he was saying.

There also just as many people like myself who share the opinion that he should just be careful in what he says. Knoxville is starving for a great football team again. They don't need a guy to stand up and give cliche after cliche, promise things he simply can't make happen right now, and name drop Peyton manning. Just tell us you are going to work as hard as you can to bring back Tennessee to its rightful place. That's simply my opinion as well many people I personally know. I don't hate or dislike butch, but I'm also not going to jump on the bandwagon of the guy our university went after as our 5th choice.

Willie Martinez? The same Willie Martinez that had the worst defense in Georgia history for two years straight til he was fired?

Thigpen? Any coach from auburn this year, isn't exactly what I would call a great hire.

I honestly hate those two hires. Neither has proven anything coaching in the sec. Martinez was a great player, but coach he is not. We just got rid of sal. Why do we need to bring in other baggage?

I do like the hire from Wisconsin. I think he is gonna be a players coach from what I read and he and Charlie garner look like they will mesh well especially.

I was gonna respond until I read the “Charlie garner” part.

I think Napoleon actually said...

Better to be a little leader than a little follower

Napoleon - hmmm - wasn't he that little French general who always held his sandwiches inside his coat to keep them warm?

Actually, I know very well who he was. I'm a little guy myself. He's one of my heroes. The only Frenchman I admire more was Le Petomane, who I've been trying to emulate my whole life.
